Time For School

Beep! Beep! Beep! My alarm clock screams, yet again, urging me to rise up from bed and get ready for school. Groggily, I lift my head toward the clock above me. Reaching out, I whack the snooze button. I have fifteen more minutes until the school bus comes. As I possess the deadly sin of sloth, I let myself drop to the bed, back into the safety and warmth of my cover, a typical decision for a typical day.

Beep! I rise up immediately, my eyes wide open. Panic takes over my body, causing my heart to beat fast. With a swift pound, I stop the beeping and turned off the alarm option of the clock. After a brief glance, I realized I still have ten minutes, nothing to worry about.

I slip on my sandals and walk to my dresser absent-mindedly, while trying to keep my eyes open. The sluggish part still has not left me. I'm just glad that I am not in a military school. Up and about at seven is enough exercise for me in the morning. Running few miles at dawn? No way.

I reach for the second drawer. As I have more t-shirts than pants, I randomly put on a pair of capris and search everywhere for a matching top. Only occasionally, I have the exact outfit I'm going to wear in my mind.

Next destination: kitchen. I open the refrigerator door and look for my usuals in it. I take out my favorite chocolate filled muffin, the last one too. While opening the cabinet door, grabbing a Starbuck's cappuccino, I bemoaned, since tomorrow, I would eat the chunky walnut muffin. I put the brown muffin in the microwave beside the fridge and heat it up for thirty seconds. If less, the chocolate inside would still be as hard as a rock. If more, it would flow like liquids, soaking up the whole muffin. Thirty seconds is perfect.

While I'm waiting, I shake the coffee drink listlessly, sitting besides the dining table. I twist the top open and guzzle down quickly to satisfy my thirst. Although some people say the first gulp distinctly boosts your energy mentally, I have never felt

“42 states reported that most (75%-100%) public schools started before 8:30 a.m” (“Schools Start Too Early”). Most schools start before 8:30. A decent amount of schools start around 7:20. Schools start early in the day and release later in the afternoon. This has become routine, but studies show that students who start early in the day perform worse in school compared to those who start later in the day. Schools should implement a later start time for higher schoolers since high schoolers would get around the recommended amount of sleep, preventing sleeping in school and high schoolers academics and safety will increase, since they will get enough sleep to study before school and prevent drowsiness.…

That boost we get from that morning cup of coffee is the result of the caffeine that naturally occurs in coffee. Caffeine is a common stimulant and is found not only in coffee and tea, but also in soft drinks and other foods. It can also be bought over-the-counter in tablet form. Too much caffeine can cause anxiousness, headaches, and the "jitters." Caffeine is also addictive and a person who abruptly stops drinking coffee may experience withdrawal symptoms.…

As most high school students say, “if you will regret not doing something for tomorrow, stay up late.” This is due to the innumerable amounts of students occupied by homework, an after-school job, or even extracurricular activities that take place each night. Teachers have noticed that their students are not participating in class and have lower grades, because they do not attain the recommended eight to ten hours of sleep needed to function every day (Source B). Teachers, parents, school administrators, and doctors have argued whether or not high schools should start classes after 8:30, instead of the normal time of 8:00 a.m.. Thus, raising the question, should high school start later?…

I don’t like to stay at school any longer than they have to. They don’t want to be there longer in the day either. That is why schools should not start earlier in the day. School should start at the same time as usual and end at the same time as usual. If we did start school later then students would have less time to get homework done, students who are involved in after school activities wouldn’t get home until a later time as well. Students with jobs would also have a hard time getting schoolwork done if school started later.…

In Greenview the Howth clock stood over the town like a guardian. ‘TICK TOCK TICK TOCK’ it went as it counted the hours, minutes and seconds of every day. On the outskirts was the Greenview forest which contained all the memories of our childhood, building forts and playing hide and go seek. On the other side of town led to the crusty salty ocean coast which cooled our hot sweaty bodies after a fun afternoon out exploring the forest. This was what life like was before… everything has changed.…

I walk around the dance floor awkwardly, looking for groups of people that I know well enough to be able to go and stand with and pretend like I’m part of whatever mind-numbing conversation they’re having. I check my watch for the fifth time in ten minutes, which is making time go even slower. It’s 8:50 I made the rule for myself to drop my first at 9 so I wouldn’t have to take the next until midnight.…

Imagine being called on by your elementary school teacher to stand and read out loud in front of the whole class. As you prepare to stand an uncontrollable flash of heat rushes throughout your entire body. Your heart beats hysterically, as the feeling of butterfly’s flitter violently inside your burning stomach. You stand as close as possible to your desk, using it as a protective barrier, shielding you from the rest of the class. The noise of the classroom clock sounds louder with every passing second. It’s hypnotic ‘tick-tocks’ sound like a ticking time bomb getting ready to detonate at any moment. All you want to do is run far way, and crawl into a hole and hide, but you can’t because your entire body is frozen solid with fear. As you slowly…

I set my alarm for early morning 6 AM, as usual. And I slept. I was still sleeping when suddenly i felt the lights dim all around me and a shadow lurking behind the curtains. It crept up slowly near my bed. A Satan it was, full with a set of horns on its head and a wicked smile. The Satan extended its hand. I wanted to wake up desperately, but Satan must have put a spell on me. I struggled. The Satan was almost near me. I shouted at him, but I think Satan's either dont have ears or dont care about living things. It picked up my Alarm clock and set it at 8:30. Having done this it disappeared with another wicked smile. I cursed loudly, and that must have woken me (real me) up. I was sitting on my bed, sweating profusely, and looking at my clock which was still showing 5 minutes to 6. I thanked god for not having sent Satan down. On second thought, I thanked the satan for coming into my dreams. Now I have 5 more minutes. All the emphasis on 5.…
