Timothy McVeigh was a gun enthusiast who believed in the government backing off the people. He frequently read a book called the Turner Diaries, and this boosted his hate for the government. McVeigh first needed to find a way to make the bomb. His choice was fertilizer. Earlier before the bombing he broke into a quarry and stole some detonators to start the explosion of this massive bombs. McVeigh first went into Kansas and rented a Ryder the Ryder truck for his explosives. He then stayed at the Dreamland Hotel and waited for April 19. The main reason he had picked April 19th is because it was the day of “the shot heard round the world”. This signifies the American Revolution. Before all of this him and Terry Nichols looked at federal buildings all across the United States. They picked this one because it had many federal agencies in one building, and this building was pretty secluded. McVeigh only wanted to hurt the government workers. He did not want any collateral damage done to the rest of the city. He parked the truck then walked off and got in his Mercury. He was caught by a highway patrolman by Perry, Oklahoma where he was taken to jail for possession of an illegal firearm. While in jail, the investigation was moving strong, and they did not know the culprit was already in jail. Once they discovered Timothy McVeigh did it. He went on trial and later was sentenced to death by lethal
