Tintoretto's Last Supper

Tintoretto’s Last Supper piece has the same setting as Leonardo, though it is represented drastically differently and it is less focused on the aspect of Christ’s betrayal and the arguing of the disciples. This is shown in the postures in gestures the disciples show, their actions are either conversational, or attentive rather than being in a state of arguing. It has Christ as the main subject or focus in this piece, this shown through the emphasis of his glowing halo. This piece was in the times of the Counter-Reformation in what showed bouth Counter Reformation ideals and the Catholic Church’s belief in the instructive nature of religious art. Tintoretto’s piece utilizes color and shading much differently, as well as different perspectives
and depth than Leonardo’s piece. Christ being a bit further in the background has a glowing halo on his head symbolizing his divinity. The darker lighting and Christ’s placement in the piece was more so done to portray Christ as a beacon to salvation, as if it were a lighthouse. Unlike Leonardo’s piece, Tintoretto’s is more asymmetrical, but still balanced. It also is far heavier feeling than Da Vinci’s piece is
