Tire Selection Project This comparison will show the difference between four tires that could be used on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am GT Coupe. It is a small 2WD car that is used for driving around town to work and school but not for long trips. This will research the best summer performance tire for this vehicle and its needs. At the end the OVERALL best tire will be chosen for this vehicle. The first category is cost, where the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 has the most expensive price at $138 ($552 for a set). At the best price on the list is the Kumho Ecsta SPT at $95 ($380 for a set). The Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 and the Kumho Ecsta SPT lead the way with a 320 UTQG rating. Not close behind, the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 and the Yokohama S drive bring up the rear at a 300 UTQG rating. The Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 and the Kumho Ecsta SPT win this category. Comparing for tire performance is also a close race. The BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 leads the way in performance with ranks in the 8’s and even a 9. The next three are almost identical in performance ratings but the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 and the Kumho Ecsta SPT slightly edge out the Yokohama S drive. The winner of this category easily goes to the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 especially because it has a 7.8 would buy again rating which is easily above all other tires in the comparison. After comparing these tires side by side the Yokohama S drive has been eliminated because it finished in the middle or back in every category. The Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 led in UTQG but did not have good finishes in other categories so it was also kicked out. As the final result, the Kumho Ecsta SPT has been chosen because it outperforms the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 in almost every category and it has good performance ratings in the category that it was beaten in. Also, it is $172 cheaper for a set of the tires compared to the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 so the Kumho Ecsta SPT is by far the best
tire for this vehicle for its demands.
