To Be Human Means to Have Relationships – Good or Bad.

This expository essay is designed to be read by any human being that has some sort of relationship with someone or a group of people. It explores the idea of being human means to have good or bad relationships in the context of Romance and Relationships. This piece is designed to explore and explain and after reading it, the audience should understand that humans are made and born to have relationships, be those good or bad. This idea connects with “Romeo and Juliet” because throughout the play, many good and bad relationships have been explored by Shakespeare.
As humans, we are able to have relationships; with our family, friends, colleagues and many more. These relationships can sometimes be good and have a positive outcome on our personalities and lifestyle and sometimes they can be bad and have a negative outcome. Good or bad, humans are made to have some sort of relationship with someone or a group of people; good or bad, humans are made to learn things from the relationships they have with each other.
Humans have relationships with a lot of people and sometimes they don’t even realise it! Without having relationships, humans would have not lived. Relationships are what keeps life going and make it interesting. It would be very difficult, almost impossible, for a human to have a normal life if they did not have relationships with each other. The song Count on me by Bruno Mars is the best example as it is about two friends that Mars quotes “what we are called to help our friends in need”. Count on me is a very good example of good relationships as it is about friends that care about each other. Someone like you by Adele is an example of a bad relationship where (possibly) Adele had fallen love with someone and he had broken her heart but as she says “never mind I’ll find someone like you” it shows that even though she had had a bad relationship, she had learnt from it.
Not only there are examples of good and bad relationships in songs by artists, but also we experience them ourselves or hear and see different types of relationships every day around us. Good relationships happen when, for example, you meet someone in your life, you go out with the, you fall in love, then you get engaged and marriage follows, and then you have kids and eventually you live together and die together. Bad relationships are things like when a schoolboy wants to “fit in” and “look cool” so he hangs out with the “cool” people but really he falls into the wrong track. That is the wrong statement of “looking cool” when the people that he becomes friends with find smoking and taking drugs “cool” and therefore he falls into the wrong track and therefore he sets on the wrong path to his future and could possibly, ruin it.

In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare so many different types of relationships has been discovered. Romance and enemies are the two bold types of relationships depicted throughout the whole storyline. Romance, which is considered to be the good type of relationship is very obviously depicted with Romeo and Juliet, how they are so much in love with each other ever since their eyes meet. A good relationship is also depicted with Juliet and her nurse. That kind of relationship is good because seeing as Juliet doesn’t have a very good relationship with her mother, she can trust her nurse very much and also the nurse does kind of act as a mother to her most of the times during the play. An example of a bad relationship depicted is the one between Juliet and her mother. As explained earlier, Juliet and her mother don’t have the relationship that most mother-daughters have. Their relationship is rather cold and Juliet tends to not be so close with her mother but close to her nurse. Another example of a bad relationship depicted throughout the play is the very obvious and fairly major one between the Capulets and the Montagues. The two families of Verona, Italy have split Verona in half because of them being enemies. The relationship between the Capulets and the Montagues is based on hatred, making them enemies and therefore making that relationship the bad type until the end of the story when Juliet and Romeo die.
In conclusion, humans are made to have relationships. The relationships that humans have at any stage of their lives can be good and can be bad. Many things can be learnt from good and bad relationships and that’s all the beauty of it. Therefore, to be human means to have relationships – good or bad.
