I grew up watching Sci-Fi shows mostly, but I really did love the original Dark Shadows with the brooding Barnabas. After reading a lot of the posts this week in between decorating for a Veteran’s Day event at our school and mopping up the water from the broken water main in (or should I say under) the house, I came to the conclusion that Captain Kirk was a futuristic King Arthur and Mr. Spock would have been his Merlin. You had pageantry and magic along with the code of honor that the characters would follow.
I have always had a fascination with the time of Arthur ever since Richard Harris was in Camelot. The magic that movie inspired in me was unbelievable. The idea of the courtly love and the thoughts the music inspired in me still can bring chills to my skin. It is set in today’s time but with characters from the time of Merlin and Morganna. Marrok had been cursed by la Fey to live forever, so he and others (wizards) bring the past to the present with their talk of the feud between Merlin and Morganna. The use of the spells and the idea of a one time, life time mate that would last for a thousand years’ life span is very intriguing. The author seems to have a following and is well received; could it be due to her use of knights and wizards in a modern day setting?
