To Give Peace a Chance
This world that we live in is filled with numerous predicaments. These issues include war, hunger, suicide, pollution, racism, violence, substance abuse, bullying, teenage pregnancy, poverty, global warming, and the list goes on. Mahatma Gandhi suggested, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”Although there are many issues in the world that should be improved, if I had the power to do one thing to improve the world, I would probably establish world peace.
According to Dictionary.com, world peace is defined as an idea of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations and people. There are many people in the world who despise each other and fight. They hate one another because they are different and they fight over land or religion. For instance, let us take a moment to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This on-going struggle between Israelis and Palestinians began in the late 19th century. They are fighting over land, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and do not wish to share it and live in harmony together. If I was able to found world peace, I would terminate all fighting over land.
According to three major religions and traditions, the two first human beings on this earth were Adam and Eve. They had two sons named Cain and Abel. Cain is described as a farmer and his younger brother Abel was a shepherd. Cain was the first murderer, and Abel was the first human to ever die. By instituting world peace, I would not allow for any unnecessary violence to take place. Violent crimes include murder, rape, sexual assault, robbery, and assault. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women. It tops car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. By establishing world peace, I will do my best to avoid violence. Thirdly, if I could establish world peace, I would end all bullying. Dictionary.com states that bullying is defined as using superior strength or influence to intimidate someone by typically forcing him or her to do

Essential to the concept of peace contained within the Christian Bible is the belief that peace as a concept was given to humankind by God, demonstrated by the teaching and example of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament. “Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace I give to you.” (Jn) This teaching is as such evident in a number of movements which advocate and attempt to achieve world peace. The World Conference on Religion and Peace is a prominent initiative created through the influence of Christian teaching, aiming to encourage dialogue between nations in order to foster and conserve the peace ordained by God. They have provided mediation is such areas as Kosovo and have brought together world leaders to discuss issues such as global security and disarmament. This elucidates the way in which global initiatives for peace are heavily influenced by the principal teachings of Christianity. Moreover, another prominent initiative directed towards the attainment of peace at a global level is the promotion of the World Day of Peace by Pope John Paul VI, declaring that annually, New Years Day should be dedicated to reflection regarding the need for peace, saying that; “peace results from the harmony built into society by its divine founder.” (John Paul VI) This highlights the direct influence of Christian teaching on movements for world peace. Although conflict in contemporary society in a global context is still prevalent, it can…

had the same hope of a peaceful world. Martin Luther King Jr. hoped for a peaceful world to be accomplished by his voice and his devotion to a non-violent world. Barack Obama had a bit of a different idea. Obama wanted a peaceful world to be achieved by violence from time to time to keep people in their places and balance out all strong forces. I believe that although it would be spectacular to see our world achieve world peace without having to resort to violence, I think that our world will have its ups and downs in terms of war and violence and that hopefully, in the end, we will all be able to live on this world together and peacefully as…

Conflict can arise among different people in a variety of ways and at different levels of severity. When two or more people, groups, or countries interact, their individual needs and goals may conflict. Conflict normally comes about over the pursuit of self-interests. The way that society tries to prevent conflict is by establishing laws or guidelines that regulate the self-serving behaviors of individuals and groups (Meyers, 2009).…

If the World was a perfect place, everyone would get along and grow together. But nothing is perfect. I’m hear to say that the World won’t last much longer, unless we can learn to bridge together. Learn to compromise, learn to understand, learn to build without destruction first. It’s a misconception that only one can be the best. What makes someone the “best” is their ability to accept counsel from others, and to use that advice to further themselves. Once everyone learns this, then we can start to strengthen as a…

Peace is mutually beneficial relationship, which has low levels of aggression and hostility. Peacemaking is an effort to resolve parties in conflict. Before peacemaking has an influence on a situation there needs to be a conflict. One such conflict is the Iraq War. A group of people make camps in the war zones helping the people fight against the war, by developing relationships and giving a sense of empowerment to the Iraqi people. Myers (2010) believes in four key ingredients for peacemaking. Comparing these ingredients with the article from Culbertson will show how peacemaking even from a small group can be accomplished. Peacemaking is bringing a conflict to a resolution, a closer look at an article that deals with peacemaking will assist in understanding, as will the four C’s to peacemaking.…

As I aged, I've noticed many times just how rotten the world can be; while there may at times be peace and beauty, it never seems to last. Something horrible always comes to chase the good times away, so it seems. If I had the chance to create a better world there would undoubtedly be many changes. My vision of a utopia would be on a beautiful, self-sustaining world where innovation and nature co-exist peacefully, there are no wars and equality reigns, and my friends and family are safe and happy.…

There are many different ways to reflect on the word peace. I always thought of peace as a state of which our world got along, one country with another. However, the world will never be at peace since there are so many different opinions between world leaders.…
