This was clearly shown in chapter 9.Atticus believes that Tom Robinson’s case and his chances, saying “ The Jury couldn’t possibly be expected to take Tom Robinson words against the Ewells.”Atticus is trying to say, it’s unlikely for a black man like Tom Robinson to convince the jury instead of the Ewells. Now, looking at the second book “True Diary”, we witness similar treatments from two races. Arthur spirit is an Indian who lives on a rez. He has to live there not only for obtaining an insufficient amount of money to live in a more stable area, but the areas that can give Spirit a chance to a better life, are dominantly white. In this story, the white people do not get along with Indians.With this, Spirit was bullied a lot after moving schools from the Rez to Rearden. Spirit says “I’d have to put a stop to it eventually or I’d always be known as“Chief” or “Tonto” or “Squaw boy… I was always afraid of those monsters were going to kill me. And I don’t mean “Kill” as in “metaphor.” I mean “Kill” as in “ beat me to death.” This line shows how Spirit about his position in life, and how he would have to deal with his constant fear of the white people. When Tom Robinson was young, his left arm was caught in a cotton grind, making his hand useless. His left hand was obviously noticeably distinct to his right, Scout says “ He oddly looked off balance, but it was not from the way he was standing. His left arm was full twelve inches smaller than his right, and hung dead on his side.”Robinson is not the sole character in both these stories who face traumatic injuries. Spirit was born with a condition named hydrocephalus. This condition occurs when there becomes an excess amount of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. On page one, Spirit explains “ My thinking and living engine slowed down and flooded.”Spirit gives the reader an understanding of how he has to live his life with his poor health with this quote. These characters face many terrible experiences, with these experiences lead to having conditions that could be hard to overcome.It’s expected for a community that have such an insignificant amount to work as one to be able to give each other a stable environment.
