"Seven Stars are in the sky, Six and six go equal, Five's the Rameau in his boat, Four score's an acre, Three is a driver, Two shall be the Lily o' the Day, Dressed in scarlet and green-o, The One, the one, that's left alone. It no more shall be alone..." The reason why I picked this quote was that the song that Shadrach was singing was like telling a story.

Writing the sounds Malala Yousafzai heard whilst she was shot is really interesting. You can take this quote in many ways. First, she could have written it this way because she relives it when she writes. Repeating the same sound over and over represents someone being affected by a traumatic experience. Second, she is explaining that instead of thinking of her death, her body was trying to find ways to avoid shock. It’s similar to when you have a panic attack, you try and focus on one object to calm you down. So when she wrote this, she wanted the reader to imagine the butcher’s chopping rather than the gun shot because it’s what she did. Third, she wants the reader to know she was conscious then she was shot but not fully aware. Either way,…

In To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee illustrates bravery through the characters in a town in the south called Maycomb in the 1960s. Their names are Atticus Finch, Tom Robison, and Calpurnia to educate her readers that courage comes in many forms to exemplify that courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. In Chapter 9, Atticus Finch demonstrates bravery when he intends to defend Tom Robinson to teach his southern neighbors to character not color. “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is not reason for us to try to win” ( pg 101- Atticus) The quote is explaining that just because we lost in the past doesn't mean we can't try to win and do good.…

Have you ever found a character, maybe in a tv show, or book, that you can relate to the most (especially by a landslide)? Some people could say yes to the moon and back, while some people have never related that much to a character in their life. For me, I’m more of the former, and I found a character to relate to in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee; Scout Finch. To explain, Scout and I take longer than others to understand things, which could cause frustration in others (mainly peers), and we’re both put under at least some pressure to be more “lady-like”. There’s other similarities too, but they’re either not as significant or I couldn’t find as much quotes to support them.…

In the book, ”To Kill A Mockingbird,” Scout also learns and makes memories off of real life lessons. Scout’s school was disappointing but she didn't learn most of her lessons ,there she learned them at home ,or playing with Jem, and Dill ,or anywhere she went.…

Age is one of the first things one is judged on when meeting someone. This is for good reason, as people's age indicates many things such as their maturity, knowledge and give a good starting point for what to expect from them. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is from the perspective of Scout Finch, a 6 year old who learns what it means to grow up. As the story progresses, scout learns more about Maycomb, the fictional town she lives in, and the unique characters in it such as Boo Radley and Scout's father, Atticus Finch. Atticus is a progressive man, teaching Scout and her brother Jem life lessons that could be considered controversial. Due to Scout’s young age, the way she interprets events is biased compared to a more experienced person,…

"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.... Tom Robinson is a no good person, he is a person of great sins, believes everybody in Maycomb except the Finches. The city of Maycomb is filled with lower/middle class citizens who all have these preconceived ideas about everyone else in the community. This eventually creates a lot of drama about everything that happens. Favorite things are quite odd, are they not? For every so often, as you mature and age, your favorite things can change quite drastically. During an ice breaker in school you could be asked what your favorite color is and without thinking you say blue, but actually it might be yellow and then bam you’re thrown off the Bridge of Death and into the Gorge of Eternal Peril. Or maybe you’ll just be embarrassed to be in front of the class, neither option a good option. Some people claim that they don’t actually have favorite things, like teachers, but they totally really do (I’m looking at you Mrs. ).…
