A mockingbird brings nothing but good with its’ beautiful songs, so if you kill a mockingbird it is a sin because it is so innocent. Boo Radley is often connected to the mockingbird because he is innocent in his situation and it is wrong for people to assume bad things about him when they do not really know him, and he is slowly destroyed by the people of Maycomb throughout the book.…

The epitome of society is symbolized by the Widow Douglass’s home. After all, it is there that Huck is forced to wear civilized clothing, eat and speak in a civilized manner, and act civilized in all possible ways. He runs away from this symbol of civilization to the freedom of the river. Then, of course, there is Jim, the symbol of all enslaved people in the South. He is downtrodden, looked down upon by all of the other characters in the book, and desperately seeking his freedom. In contrast to the rest of society, however, he is loyal and honest. Huck Finn, the protagonist of the book, contains an element of symbolism as well. He symbolizes the struggle between a person and his conscience, as well as between society and free-thinking. Throughout…

In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the mockingbird referred to in the title is a prominent symbol throughout; the snowman building in the winter and Atticus Finch are other examples of symbolism. Some symbols are easily seen, but some require a certain approach and a little digging to understand.…

On her way past the house she caught a glimpse of something in the tree. Scout says this around chapter 3, “Some tinfoil was sticking in a knot-hole just above my eye level, winking at me in the afternoon sun” (44). This is the first thing that Scout finds in the knot-hole. The first gift from boo Radley, although she didn’t know it yet. Further in the book Jem and Scout find more gifts in the tree and are disappointed when Nathan fills the knot-hole with cement. Jem is explaining what happened that night of the fire, and Scout is asking what had happened. “Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn't know it when he put the blanket around you”. Scout nearly through up when she heard this. Jem continues to say, “He sneaked out of the house-turn 'round-sneaked up, an' went like this!'" This is when Ms. Maudie house burned down. Scout was scared when she found out that boo was behind her, although she is starting to understand him. Scout and Jem are now so curious about him and start to understand that he could be nice, and not this mean monster. The reality is that Boo is a nice guy and not the mean monster they assumed he…

The symbol of The Mockingbird represents various characters throughout the novel and helps develop the theme of moral injustice. Tom robinson is an example of a “Mockingbird” because he never did anything wrong, however he was shot and wrongfully accused. The explanation of “a mockingbird” can be found in the book when Miss.Maudie says “ Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy (...) they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird”(Lee, 119). This explains why it is wrong for one to kill a mockingbird; since they do not cause anyone misfortune, it would be morally unjust to cause them misfortune. Tom Robinson is symbolized as a mockingbird…

In Buddhism, the Eight Auspicious symbols are considered to be the most meaningful and powerful symbols in the entire religion. The Eternal Knot is one of these Eight symbols. The Eternal Knot looks like an unending knot that is inevitably connected. It also looks like an extremely unsolvable maze to the eye. It represents the balance between opposite dualities. It’s a symbol that hate is rode out with love, that lies are overcome by truth. It also symbolizes how arguments have two sides and that each person should see the other side of an argument in a new light. This leads to harmony, balance and a closer path to enlightenment. All the twists and turns in the knot symbolize the entanglement of all the beings on Earth. This magnifies the…
