Chapter 3 summary
Jean/scout tries to beat up Walter Cunningham at the school playground for getting her in trouble
Jem stops her from beating Walter up and scout explained the situation to Jem
Walter was invited by Jem to come and have lunch with him and Scout
During lunch Atticus and Walter were talking about farming for most of the time
Walter pours molasses all over his food which causes Scout to yell in surprise making Walter embarrassed, causing stop in his tracks
Calpurina calls scout outside and tells her to be loyal and respectful to guest and gives her a smack on the way back
Burris Ewell was asked by Miss Caroline to go home and wash his hair and advices him to take a bath (cootie)
Burris explains to her that he wouldn’t be coming back since he is a Ewell
Ewell’s only come the first day to satisfy the truant officer
Burris manages to make miss Caroline cry as he was leaving
Other students including Scout manage to cheer up the teacher and ask her to read them another story
Scout was really upset with her first day at school so she made plans on running away
Calpurina makes crackling bread for scout
Atticus then ask Scout to come so he can read her a story before bed
The idea of a bedtime story reminded Scout of her argument with miss Caroline she had about reading
Scout them explains her encounter at school with her teacher to Atticus
Scout mentions that Burris Ewell stays home so why can’t she do the same
Atticus was apposed to the idea and told her that he will keep reading to her if she continues to go to school
Chapter 4 Summary
Jean was frightened by the Radley’s place so everyday after school she ran right past the home
One day she notices a tinfoil to a knothole on a tree near the Radley home
She managed to go to the tree and unwrap the tinfoil were she find to pieces of gum
She then does some tests to make sure it wasn’t poisoned and then she chews
