To Learn How to Operate a Cathode-Ray Oscilloscope
Cathode-Ray Oscilloscope

OBJECTIVE: To learn how to operate a cathode-ray oscilloscope.
APPARATUS: Cathode-ray oscilloscope, multimeter, and oscillator.
INTRODUCTION: The cathode-ray oscilloscope (CRO) is a common laboratory instrument that provides accurate time and aplitude measurements of voltage signals over a wide range of frequencies. Its reliability, stability, and ease of operation make it suitable as a general purpose laboratory instrument. The heart of the CRO is a cathode-ray tube shown schematically in Fig. 1.

The cathode ray is a beam of electrons which are emitted by the heated cathode (negative electrode) and accelerated toward the fluorescent screen. The assembly of the cathode, intensity grid, focus grid, and accelerating anode (positive electrode) is called an electron gun. Its purpose is to generate the electron beam and control its intensity and focus. Between the electron gun and the fluorescent screen are two pair of metal plates - one oriented to provide horizontal deflection of the beam and one pair oriented ot give vertical deflection to the beam. These plates are thus referred to as the horizontal and vertical deflection plates. The combination of these two deflections allows the beam to reach any portion of the fluorescent screen. Wherever the electron beam hits the screen, the phosphor is excited and light is emitted from that point. This coversion of electron energy into light allows us to write with points or lines of light on an otherwise darkened screen. In the most common use of the oscilloscope the signal to be studied is first amplified and then applied to the vertical (deflection) plates to deflect the beam vertically and at the same time a voltage that increases linearly with time is applied to the horizontal (deflection) plates thus causing the beam to be deflected horizontally at a uniform (constant> rate. The signal applied to the verical plates is thus displayed on the screen as a function of

Alpha particles constantly released by the americium knock electrons off of the atoms in the air, ionizing the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the chamber. The positively-charged oxygen and nitrogen atoms are attracted to the negative plate and the electrons are attracted to the positive plate, generating a small, continuous electric current.…

Acoustic and ultrasonic microscopes, compound microscopes, and fluorescent and UV microscopes are available. Acoustic and ultrasonic microscopes use sound waves to create images of the sample. Compound microscopes use a single light path. These types of microscopes can have a single eyepiece (monocular) or a dual eyepiece (binocular). Compound microscopes have low depth perception but high resolution and magnification. Fluorescent microscopes and UV microscopes use high-energy and short-wavelength light to excite electrons, causing them to shift to higher orbits. When the electrons fall back to their original energy levels, they emit lower-energy and longer-wavelength light.…

The X-Ray imaging system has one function, and that is to provide a constant flow of electrons that are strong enough to produce and x-ray beam to create an image. There are many different sizes and types of imaging systems but no matter what system you use, every type will have three main sections. Those sections are the control console, the high voltage generator and the x-ray tube. The x-ray tube is located in the exam room, the control console is located in an adjoining room that is separated from the exam room by a lead wall to protect the radiographer from radiation exposure. The wall will have a window so that the patient can be viewed without having to enter the radiation area. The high voltage section will most likely be housed in an equipment cabinet along the wall close to the x-ray tube however, sometimes the exam room will have false ceilings and the generators will be installed there to be hidden. There are two divisions to the main x ray circuit, those are the primary side and the secondary side and I will talk about both of those throughout this paper.…

Nevertheless, Turkey now needs our support. Since the war, Turkey has sought additional financial assistance from Great Britain and the United States for the purpose of effecting that modernization necessary for the maintenance of its national integrity. That integrity is essential to the preservation of order in the Middle East. The British government has informed us that, owing to its own difficulties, it can no longer extend financial or economic aid to Turkey. As in the case of Greece, if Turkey is to have the assistance it needs, the United States must supply it. We are the only country able to provide that help.…

This machine used in fluoroscopy generates a high amount of electricity that creates a steam of electrons that are then transferred to the tungsten target making the structure of the tungsten stop the electrons and causing x-ray energy. Then the energy passes through the tube and sends it against the patient body part. These energy waves can pass through the body and create images of the anatomy of the inside of the body. As that is been done the equipment makes an image in a video format using two dimensional patterns of light. Thanks to all this we are able to see or obtain an image in video format of our inside organs. Beside this machine there is also mobile fluoroscopy, which is better in the way that you are able to move it around and take it anywhere you want.…
