Abstract Body image is a topic of hot debate in our times; the media appears to be the chief force that lurks behind the scenes concerning the female issue of appearance that drives eating disorders, enhancement procedures, too-soon sexual liaisons and at the maximum, suicide. To what do we owe this ever-increasing phenomenon of body image negativity for those who cannot measure up to the commercialized standard of perfection? There are a combination of factors responsible for adding yet another theme to the universal trials of predominantly female adolescents. This paper will examine the principal causes in addition to media exposure, rates of eating disorders among female teens and suicide or death that can be attributed to one’s lack of confidence in their body image.

I can foretell what is to come because I have seen enough already to know that you will be impacted moderately in the least. The environment you live in nearly guarantees it and I can only hope and pray that I have and will continue to provide enough oppositional elements to stave off the intensity and consequences of your mother’s obsession with her own body image and her lack of regard for your development.
I have taught you
