In other ways though, Alexander was not so great.
In Egypt, Alexander had Egyptians help make the city of Alexandria, but once the city was finished, native Egyptians were not allowed in the city, and it became a place for only Greeks and Macedonians. He also sold many people into slavery. A lot of women and children in Thebes were sold into slavery, but they were not the only people sold into slavery by Alexander. Along his entire conquest he sold people into slavery. He also let his soldiers burn down the great city of Persepolis in Persia. He also destroyed an entire city due to rebels in Persia. During his conquest, he and his men killed hundreds of thousands of people. He also wasn’t always merciful, as evident by his treatment of the Brahmin in India. The Brahmin in India told the Indian rulers to fight against Alexander, and not to let him take over, and so whenever Alexander found a Brahmin, he would learn about hinduism from them. After he talked to the Brahmin though, he would have them be
killed.
Alexander unified Greece, Persia, and other places, but he also killed many people. He treated the people respectfully most of the time, but also treated them without mercy and without respect in many situations. He was a great strategist, but a lot of times let his vengeful nature get the best of him, as seen in Persepolis. He sold many women and children into slavery, but also wanted a unified empire. He wanted a better world, and that is what I think makes him great. He is very great, and that is because of all the land he unified, and how he did it with strategy and usual respect. He also wanted to have a better knowledge of the world, and for other people to have a better knowledge of the world as well. This is my opinion on how great Alexander the Great actually was.
