Todd Akin's Statement On Legitimate Rape
While watching the clip "Todd Akin's Statement on Legitimate Rape", I had to watch this multiple times because his thoughts and wording did not make sense to me. He was very insensitive to the subject of rape. He is saying only some rape is legitimate and real, isn't all rape legitimate are real. He believes that if a woman is actually being raped her body will shut down and reject the pregnancy. Although that is not true because there are many cases where women are raped and still have the child. As he made his opinion public he was not only insensitive he could make people question what rape is and that the last thing we want for our society. He made a very negative comment towards rape, and I don't think he was thinking before he spoke and

The author shows the concerned tone by question the future of what will happen, and always talking about the future of still having hate speeches. In the second quote it says, “Consider the number of rapes that go unreported. Could this trend possibly be impacted by Reddit threads like /r/rapingwomen or /r/mensrights?” This quote is showing how the author is concern if the need of hate speeches are coming from reddit. Another quote , “The rape culture that permeates Facebook, Twitter and the public dialogue must be held at least partially responsible for our larger rape…

The 2012 Political Party Platform exchanges values across many topics, one of which is the controversial issue of abortion. From the Democratic standpoint, the “party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.” [2012 Democratic Party Platform, p.18]. In a liberal context, women have the right to control their individual reproductive choices, and as abortion is an intimate, personal decision, governmental and political intervention is prohibited. Conservative Republicans identify differently: they “support a human life…

Many sexual assault victims hesitate to speak out, for one of the reasons you mentioned, they did not want their town or people to be affected negatively. Douglas was looked at a savor in the town. Who was really going to believe the boys of being raped by a person who has done so much good for the community. Also, I think men face the stigma that they don’t fall victims to rape. For this group of men, they tried over and over again for someone to hear their story, when people should have stepped in and help right away.…

An assiduous dissension among American citizens pertains to the topic of abortion. Many believe abortion to be an inhumane and immoral decision, where others see no immorality or ill justification of the topic. On November 13th, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case dealing with this very issue. While some argue over the moral convictions of abortion, this case focuses on the health of women and their reproductive system. The author of the article “Abortion, Back at the Supreme Court” argues that the decision of the Fifth Circuit was based on an unjustifiable desire to deter women from seeking abortions.…

In the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it says that everyone should be endowed with equal rights and treated in the spirit of brotherhood. Tom was the receptionist of neither of these things. He was charged with the capital crime of rape because his skin color was what determined his reputability in the racist eyes of the jury. While in court, Tom Robinson was on the recieving end of sneers and racial jeers. This racial injustice is disrespectful and not in the spirit of brotherhood.…

He had been accused of the preconceived notion that all colored people are immoral and therefore, his word would never matter over a white man. Like Bastian and how he would have become kidnapped and beheaded if he were to meet with a jihadist group, the idea that Tom Robinson was physically able to rape Mayella Ewell is preposterous. In the middle of the article, Bastian states, “Even if I had been a Muslim-American, what connection would my appearance or religion have to my potential risk to national security?”. Why, I remember your teacher talking on about how Hitler was evil yet wasn’t hesitant to say that “it’s time somebody taught ‘em a lesson” when Tom was convicted. In both cases, people had been quick to go along with social normalities that were incorrect in the first place, proving injustice to unfortunately prevail in certain…

I learned that one excuse people use to justify is rape. Well I looked the statistics up and two to five percent of rape victims end up pregnant, and that is if they go and report the crime so a doctor can clean them out with a rape kit. And if this is the situation then they can simply give the baby to someone who does want kids like my aunt and many other women who would and will love the baby. When I read in high detail this next part I could not stop crying, because of the horror of it all and the evil that a person must be, to do this. Pro-choice never explains to anyone about the “fetus” moving around trying to get away from the instruments doctors’ use when they perform an abortion. The doctors that do this for a living and know the practice like the back of their hand never tell women about the baby pushing away from the probes they use while murdering them or the way the baby fights with all the strength he has until his death. This is how bad our society has gotten, because the mother’s womb is supposed to be the safest place for a child. Well even in there some babies are faced with the fear of their innocent…

I decided to write my response over the rape culture video, because rape is something that hits home for me. When I was 14 years old, my best friend from high school and I were hanging around some older guys that were a couple years older than us. We put ourselves in a situation where we were out numbered, and drinking was involved. We were both young, and until this point had not drank alcohol. An 18-year-old boy raped my best friend that night. She was very intoxicated and he had not drunk at all. She did not give consent, and was incoherent when I walked in on it happening. Even though this story sounds like a given, it was not that simple. After months of investigation, the case was ruled a “he said she said” type of situation, meaning…

Outright accusing people of being sinners and condemning them to hell was a norm violation that directly involved people who had been previously ignoring him in the situation. I found it interesting that people who previously had no interest in the situation would then become involved in order to defend themselves or others, or to show their disapproval of the comment. The behavior that seemed to upset others the most were his attacks on other spiritual and religious paths and ways. Overall the overarching theme of his social violations and the reactions to them was that of a bully and a varied group of students, some of them victims, some of them willing to stand up, and most of them willing to ignore the…

It is now 2012 and it is an election year full of controversial issues that need to be discussed by each candidate. This campaign is said to have a “cavalier disregard for facts on both sides,” so much so that “the campaign has become bitter and trivial." Who would you vote for if the election was today? How much do you really know about the controversial issues? You, the voter, are in charge. You get to choose who runs your country and how. You have two choices so make your well-informed decision wisely. Mitt Romney is the candidate for the Republican party, who is against the federal funding of the organization based on his beliefs against abortion, and Obama is rerunning for a second term for the Democratic Party, who has a "right to choose" policy and supports funding for the group. Each candidate has their own, very different opinion on how the federal funding should be distributed to women 's group Planned Parenthood due to their own personal beliefs and the beliefs of their political party.…

    Double Standards

When a female victim goes to authorities for a sexual assault, she is immediately asked what she is wearing, as if her clothes determine her consent. The idea that women are somehow deserving of being sexually assaulted and/or raped for drinking or wearing a certain article of clothing is sickening. This same issue with rape and double standards applies to men as well. Male victims of rape are often ridiculed for their horrific experience, and their friends tell them that they are lucky to have had sex. Male victims are just as silenced as female victims, but in different ways. Women are victim-blamed for their assault, and therefore silenced. Men are silenced into accepting the rape as an orgasm and not the crime that it is.…

Late one night a young woman was walking home from work when a man approached her then raped her. Soon after, she discovered that he impregnated her. She felt that abortion was the only choice because living with the constant reminder of what had happened to her was too much to handle. Also she knew that she wouldn’t be able to love or treat it the way it should be loved or treated. Physician Felicia H. Stewart and economist James Trussell estimated that 333,000 assaults and rapes reported in the US in 1998 caused about 25,000 pregnancies. (Wikipedia) People come up with all kinds of excuses when their lives become more difficult so that they can take the easier way out. Unfortunately with abortion there is no easy way out. No matter what decisions are made someone is going to get hurt; may be the mother, the father or perhaps it’s the baby that will have to pay for its parents stupidities. Abortion should only be a last resort in cases like rape or being too sick to actually give birth. If the child will be mistreated or unloved, adoption is always an option. It’s the mother’s decision since it is her body and her life. Even in some of these cases abortion is not okay because adoption is always available if you cannot handle a child. Everyone has their own opinions and mine is that I’m “Pro-Choice”. Meaning that I’m not fully against abortion, but I’m not fully for it. I believe that it’s your own decision what happens to your child.…
