To many the 1920”, which was roaring during the time, was a time of tolerance to many people. But, just how tolerant was it really? During this time the palmer raids were going on and many laws were being passed. Lots of these laws led to good consequences but, many didn’t work the way they should have.
During the 1920 the prohibition act was passed saying that the consumption of liquor was illegal. But at the beginning this law was not enforced but later another law was passed to enforce the prohibition act stating that the sale of liquor or the holding of liquor was illegal and was enforced among many.
Also during the 1920’s the palmer raids were roaring throughout the nation and many people were deported without trial because of fear and political power that said these deportee’s were communists. No one was safe from being deported especially not if you were a politician against senator Palmer. Palmer used the palmer raids as a way to get rid of his competition so that he would stay as senate.
Though many bad/ intolerant ideals came during the 1920’s one good thing that came out of it was the founding of The American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU. This union was made to protect the civil rights of Americans against the palmer raids. This union also did not only help white Americans but helped the African Americans to.
Though the roaring 20’s were roaring they were not roaring with tolerance. In fact there was much more intolerance that I could write about like lynching, and other horrible ideals that were happening at the time. Throughout the 1920’s there was little to no tolerance to anything not even to other human beings so was it really tolerant? No. it is plain fact to say that the 1920’s were not tolerant enough.
