Tom Robinson
Tom Robinson was an honest, trustworthy, loyal friend to me. Tom has never meant to hurt anybody, let alone a young woman. He was a respectful person and a good neighbor. He was always there to assist those in need. He could be standing with us today, carrying on his own like the good man he was. It was very clear to the citizens of Maycomb that Tom was an innocent man that was falsely accused by Mayella. They did not need solid proof because apparently his skin color was enough to get him in trouble. He was a respected member of the community who could inspire anybody to be kind to their neighbors. All of the events that happened to Tom Robinson leads us to believe that it is now punishable to assist a helpless girl. Tom would want us to have respectful behavior towards those who wrongly accused him despite the injustice that has taken place here. I grew up with Tom and have been through so much with him but I will never be as levelheaded as Tom was. Tom had a wife and child to support but that was not taken into consideration when the first strike he had in court was his skin color. Those of us who knew Tom well enough to know he would never commit a crime like he was accused of, will think fondly of him and appreciate the time we spent with Tom Robinson and be merry that he is in a less judgmental place, where he will be happier and we will mourn and be happy for him. Think fondly of those who put an effort forth to defend Tom Robinson and believed that this man's side of the story mattered and that his claims were not invalidated by his skin

I am writing to bring to your attention the unfair trial of Tom Robinson. I think we all knew that the jury would say that he was guilty of the crime, but was he really? I don’t think he was, and I hope you and the readers of The Maycomb Tribune will help me fight this injustice. Good people like Atticus Finch, tried to prove the innocence of Tom Robinson. The real criminals here are Mayella Ewell and Bob Ewell for taking a man’s life simply because he was colored. Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.…

Mr Tom Robinson gets sent to jail do to a false belief the trial at the Monroe county courthouse on august 26 1935. Many are saying because he feels sorry for Ms. mayella ewells. that he deserves to be punished. Is feeling empathy for a white woman a bad thing ? we talked to Mr Robinson after the trial as he states “ just because i’m black, am i not allowed to feel sorry for a white woman ?” many people like him agree. Though mayella did state that he pushed himself on her and beat her up her last statement was "That nigger yonder took advantage of me an' if you fine fancy gentlemen don't wanta do nothin' about it then you're all yellow stinkin' cowards" (18.167).…

Being a Black man in Maycomb, Alabama was difficult; Maycomb was a racist town with people who did not want the Blacks to be equal to the Whites. People discriminated Robinson’s race to the point where his race was what defined his character. The Whites in Maycomb had a mentality that all blacks were not to be trusted. This affected Tom Robinson because during his rape trial his lawyer, Atticus Finch states “. . . You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral; some Negro men are not to be trusted around women—black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men.” [Lee, 48] Atticus was trying to say that we need to judge people as individuals rather than by their race. Robinson’s race caused him to be discriminated against by the Whites in Maycomb, in particular Bob Ewell. Bob Ewell had seen that his daughter had kissed a Black man and was very upset. He said "I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!" [Lee, 84] Because Robinson…

Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, who claimed he could run backward faster than most men could go forward, was the most famous of all African American tap dancers in the twentieth century. Dancing upright and swinging, his light and exacting footwork brought tap "up on its toes" from an earlier flat-footed shuffling style, and developed the art of tap dancing to a delicate perfection.…

These things show that Tom Robinson is an innocent man, who would never do something horrendous like raping and hurting Mayella. And there is proof that he hasn’t. The remarks about Atticus helping Toim Robinson were arising from all over Maycomb County. Family, adults and even children who repeat whatever their parents say talk about Atticus in a poor manner. For instance, in the process of Francis aggravating Scout, he explains to her that Aunt Alexandria had said that Atticus was, “ruinin’ the family”, because he’s turned into a “nigger-lover”, and therefore they’ll, “never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb County”. If the people of Maycomb County put themselves in Tom Robinson’s shoes and showed empathy towards him, then the community wouldn’t shame him as much as they do now. In addition, in this particular case, empathy for Tom Robinson wouldn’t only justify and clarify the prejudices people have towards him, it would also stop the rants against Atticus Finch, because since Tom Robinson is being represented in court by Atticus, he often gets kicked out of the…

Robinson was a black man who was not accepted by the society. He was seen as a bad person just because he was black, especially after Mayella Ewell accused him of raping her though he was innocent. Tom was actually a really helpful caring person. "And so a quiet, respectable, humble Negro who had the unmitigated temerity to 'feel sorry' for a white woman has had to put his word against two white people." Tom showed courage when he innocently agreed to enter Ewell’s house to help Mayella it was a dangerous thing for any black man in the 1930s to enter a white man's home without permission. Tom risked his life to help Mayella when he saw her incapable of doing one of her chores. No one had forced him to do such thing but he done it from the kindness of his heart knowing what would happen to him if he got caught. We learn that Tom is a very thoughtful, humble man who was just trying to give a hand but instead the judge took Mr. Ewell’s word over his and was convicted of raping Mayella. Tom signified purity, was an innocent, good-hearted, only do good…

Tom Robinson is cheated out of his freedom, out of his life, because a young white woman “tried to put the evidence of her offense away from her.”(272) No one should cheat any who is lesser than themselves. Under the social ladder the black people of Maycomb are right at the bottom next to people like Mayella Ewell and her father. It’s so easy for them to be belittled, because they are socially beneath them. To the white citizens everyone beneath them is bad, and it’s easy to lie on someone who already assumed bad. Atticus says it best to the gentleman of the jury. The jury would go along with what the young white women and her father told them based on the “the evil assumption- that…

In the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it says that everyone should be endowed with equal rights and treated in the spirit of brotherhood. Tom was the receptionist of neither of these things. He was charged with the capital crime of rape because his skin color was what determined his reputability in the racist eyes of the jury. While in court, Tom Robinson was on the recieving end of sneers and racial jeers. This racial injustice is disrespectful and not in the spirit of brotherhood.…

"She has committed no crime, she has merely broken a rigid and time honoured code of our society" by going after a black man she has broken 'the rules' of Maycomb and thus she tries to hide the truth by abusing Maycomb's harsh structure of injustice and racism. She is white and Tom is black meaning the court case, as she well knows, can only have one outcome. She would rather sentence a man to death for something she had done to him, "She reached up and kissed me 'side of th' face. She said she never kissed a grown man before an's she might as well kiss a nigger." than tell the court and the towns folk that she had come onto a black man.…

Hey, my name’s Walter Cunningham Sr. I am not respected in the eyes of Maycomb. It’s mainly cause I’m poor. Poor people like me are usually not respected by others. Mr. Finch respects me and my entire family because we understand the difference between right and wrong. It first started when I was going with the mob to lynch Tom Robinson. Little Jean Louise came up to and tell me what I was doing was wrong. I realized what she was talking about so I decided not to go lynch Tom. I also realized that Tom wasn’t guilty but who would listen to someone low in the eyes of the townspeople. The next day was the trial. Mr. Finch had fought a brilliant case. His part was done now it was upon the jury members and Judge Taylor to decide is Tom was guilty. The only reason it took the jury so long to decide whether Tom was guilty or not was because of my double first cousin. My cousin was the only one who was supporting Mr. Robinson. My cousin had seen the difference between right and wrong. They knew it was wrong for Mr. Robinson to be declared guilty. They also knew they had to do something on their own. They tried and tried and tried but couldn’t succeed mainly because black peoples aren’t favored over whites even if the white man or woman is wrong and secondly because we aren’t respected enough for people to believe us. I do believe that marriage and other things shouldn’t be accepted between blacks and whites but I also believe that the truth shouldn’t be decided by what color the person is. It should be decided on evidence. Mr. Finch knows that he din’t succeed in saving Tom Robinson and his family but we all know that he tried his hardest. Maycomb can become righteous with people like Mr. Finch leading the way. I have a strong feeling that Mr. Finch will eventually make Maycomb a righteous and just place. I know this process has begun because us Cunninghams’ and Ms. Alexandra have put our faith on you. Mr. Finch, the Cunninghams’ will always support you…

    2. [...] To Maycomb, Tom's death was typical. Typical of a nigger to cut and run. Typical of a nigger's mentality to have no plan, no thought for the future, just run blind first chance he saw. Funny thing, Atticus Finch might've got him off scot free, but wait-? Hell no. You know how they are. Easy come, easy go. Just shows you, that Robinson boy was legally married, they say he kept himself clean, went to church and all that, but when it comes down to the line the veneer's mighty thin. Nigger always comes out in 'em. [...]…
