Tom Sawyer Essay
In many books the characters, throughout the book change attitudes and personalities. In the book Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain, there are many dynamic characters. Two of these characters are Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Tom and Huck are the main characters and go through the most dramatic change in the book Tom Sawyer.
At the start of the novel Tom Sawyer is a lot different than at the end of the novel. At the beginning of the novel Tom is a very mischievous, bad, and overall rebellious to the common way of life. An example of this is that Tom skips school to go swimming in the Mississippi River. Huck is also this way in the beginning, an example of this is that he never goes to school, doesn’t
wear shoes, and smokes when ever he wants. This behavior is due to Huck’s dad leaving Huck to provide for himself, and having no adult figure to have a good example of. Tom Sawyer is a very dynamic, and also a round character. Tom in the beginning of the book was immature, for example he didn’t like washing for school. Another good example of Tom’s immaturity is when he picks a fight with a boy he never saw before, all because the boy was wearing nice clothes and looked gentlemanly. Huckleberry is also a dynamic and round character. An example how Huck is dynamic is that in the start Huck doesn’t respect adults like the Widow Douglas. Tom changes into a more mature, responsible boy due to series of events throughout the novel. One example of Tom’s dynamic change is when lost inside the cave with Becky, Tom takes charge and keeps Becky calm and tries to lead them back out of the cave. An example of Huck dynamically changing is when Huck is adopted by Widow Douglas and sees that someone cares about him. He replies by being respectful to her and following her rules like going to school. The two main characters that are the most dynamic in the novel Tom Sawyer are Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Both of these characters go from irresponsible, rebellious boys into more mature, responsible boys. The book I saw the most change in characters personalities and attitudes is the novel Tom Sawyer, by the author Mark Twain.
