She is a female snow fairy apprentice working to learn how to be a full fledged fairy. She comes to the human world for the final part of her training which requires her to find a so called "Twinkle". Sugar acts much like a toddler with a clumsy nature who often tries her best at things but messes up because she doesn't always think things through. She loves to kiss anyone she is fond of when happy. After Saga first feeds her a waffle, she comes to love treats, though she mispronounces their name as "waffo". In the manga adaptation, she was familiar with the word before eating one.

She lives in the house of a veterinarian who has a newborn baby, who she tries to care for and plays lullabies to on her harp. Calm, gentle, and polite, she is humble about her abilities and is capable of talking to animals.

Age: About 9. He is a male apprentice sun fairy and another of Sugar's friends who come to the human world with her to find a "Twinkle". Salt initially wishes to be a sun fairy like his father but after meeting Turmeric, he decides he wants to be a cloud fairy.

Cinnamon is a male apprentice and an ice or hail fairy who is best friends with Basil. He is the calmer of the two until he uses his cymbals which make him go crazy. He also loves to cause mischief and plays pranks on humans that cannot see him.

The story is based around 11-year-old Saga Bergman, a young girl in a small German town called Muhlenberg (based on real town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber). Saga lives with her grandmother Regina and works in a coffee shop when not in school. Saga is extremely structured and plans her life down to the minute. One day, she notices a tiny creature in a fluffy outfit that appears to be starving. She offers it a waffle, which helps revive the tiny creature. Saga learns that this tiny creature is Sugar, an apprentice season fairy. Sugar explains that season fairies alter the weather by playing a magical musical instrument, and her specialty is snow, which she creates by playing the piccolo. Sugar is joined by two more apprentice season fairies, Salt, an outgoing male fairy who plays the trumpet to make the sun shine more brightly, and Pepper, a quiet and caring female fairy who plays the harp to make the wind

    Akira Isogawa was born in 1964 in Kyoto, Japan. In his early life, he had an affinity with fabrics and fashion, purchasing his first own item of clothing at 12, and first fashion brand name garment at age 16. Isogawa originally enrolled in Welfare Studies at a Buddhist University in Kyoto, but quit the course before finishing. First embarking to Australia in 1986, he was on a working holiday and became so captivated that, at the age of 21, he moved to Australia to study fashion design at the Sydney Institute of Technology, despite his family 's wishes to remain in Japan and become a public servant. In 1993, only two years after graduating, he founded his fashion label 'Akira ' and opened his first 'Akira Isogawa ' boutique in the exclusive suburb of Woollahra, Sydney. Three years later, Isogawa presented his first major fashion show at Australian Fashion Week Sydney, which he entitled 'New Generation Collection '. 1998 was the biggest year for Akira Isogawa 's fashion career, with his first international show in Paris Fashion Week, 'Botanica '. In that year he started his long standing career creating costumes for the arts, designing costumes for Sydney Dance Company 's production of 'Salome '. A year later, Isogawa received the Australian Designer of the Year award, as well as the Womenswear Designer of the Year at the Australian Fashion Industry Awards. The Akira fashion label also featured in exhibitions such as Fashion of the Year retrospective at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum and the Tokyo Vogue Exhibition at the Brisbane City Gallery. Over the next three years, Akira Isogawa 's designs featured in over 10 exhibitions in Australia and one internationally, and the label of 'Akira ' had become one of the most well-known Australian fashion labels. In 2005, Isogawa expanded his label, and opened a boutique in Central Melbourne and another in The Strand Arcade, Sydney.     However, all who are deemed these qualities are the villainesses of the stories. When the beautiful damsel is placed in distress, it is always the ugly villainess who places her there. Thus, as stated by Grauerholz there becomes an “ association between beauty and goodness and then conversely between ugliness and evil..” (qtd. in Hanafy). When a villainess acts out against the heroine, as seen in the characters of Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty, and the Evil Queen in Snow White, they do not act from any intelligible source of anger but rather from jealousy (mostly stemming from beauty) and pure malice, therefore furthering the reader and/or listeners disdain of powerful women, and instead reinstating one’s compassion, and reliability for the distressed heroine.     Most Americans could say that they have at least heard of Cinderella and her fairy godmother. In the German Version of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel,” there is no Fairy godmother. In “Aschenputtel,” Cinderella’s mother tells her “Dear child, remain pious and good, and then our dear God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you." Later in the story Cinderella asks her father to bring home the first twig that brushes his hat. When given the twig Cinderella takes it to her mother’s grave and it grows into a magnificent tree.
