Tomorrow When the War Began The characters in the book Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden have to change and adapt to their situation they are in. Marsden is showing us that many people don’t reach their full potential and can be limited by the society they live in. This essay will be exploring the change in the characters and having to adapt to their extreme situation. There are eight teenagers Robyn, Lee, Ellie, Homer, Fiona, Corrie, Chris and Kevin that all have to face the fact that they have been invaded and need to find a way to save their family, friends and country. The characters will need to be able to think straight and be prepared with what they are faced with. Throughout the essay I will be discussing how the characters change and will need to risk their lives for each other. It will make everyone’s relationships come closer and change the way they act. This essay will be explaining the leadership that the characters show throughout the book, the courage that the characters show and how their friendships change. My essay will explore and explain how they react to the invasion and what changes. An important thing in the book is that the characters have to be courageous and show courage when faced with a scenario. This is a big thing because it presents many opportunities where the characters have a chance to show courage by overcoming obstacles. This is shown when they are in extreme places and spots they come through such as Hell. The more extreme the setting got the more courage the characters would have to use to overcome them ‘’… a line of dangerous and miraculous cliffs we have to conquer.’’ This was how they described Hell with all its cliffs and vegetation. This quote shows that the characters would have to use a lot of courage to get past Hell and its dangerous cliffs.
