Tone Of The Poem Whatif Poem
The title of the poem ‘Whatif’ refers to the fears and paranoia questions we have at night, as we are more vulnerable. The poet combines the words ‘what’ and ‘if’ in a childlike manner. The main theme of the poem is ‘fears of a child’. In almost every line the poet adds a new fear. He mentions numerous childish fears like the feel of failing at school, being bullied, growing green chest hair and teeth not growing straight. He also mentions fears that a human at any age can relate to such as the fear of getting sick, dying, parents getting divorced and wars breaking out. The speaker in this poem is a child, so it is something any child (also a teenager) and identify with. The tone of the poem is anxious to reflect how being afraid can shake us.
Many people might think that this poem is purely for entertainment and fun. However, there is more to it

There is not a single person who does not get attacked by the what ifs every now and again. Throughout our lives we feel the burdens of all kinds of possibilities which in the moment seem to be life threatening. Whether they be as insignificant and silly as green hairs growing on our chest or as profound as death, divorce and war all what ifs are equally detrimental to the person who is attacked by them. But is there any cure for what ifs? Ignorance would definitely set aside many of them. But what ifs are not bad, though at times they may be bothersome. What ifs make us think, make us appreciate, and make us human. No life is complete without them.
I connect to this poem in the sense that I have a lot of ‘what ifs’. As a senior in college it's frightening to not know what’s next. I have all these questions that only time will tell. I just have to live in the moment and wait for everything to happen whether it’s good or bad. If things don’t happen to go my way then I’d have to work with what I have. That’s when I ask myself, “What if I'm not capable of putting up a fight for what the future hold for

The true beauty of this poem for me, and what makes it so enigmatic, is the mutual recognition in a person, between two moments past and future, of one's frame of mind at the other moment. We are so long in time, that such connections are very, very rare, and to have a moment of empathy with one's future or past self is both to gain a momentary insight into the nature of life and aging, and to momentarily gain a new internal context to how we perceive the aging of others, and what it really means to…

I remember when I first experienced goosebumps raise on my arms and send a shiver through my body, simply because the words leaving the speaker's lips left such an imprint on me. I didn’t think that a simple sentence could bring tears to my eyes, could cause me to react in any physical way. I didn’t even know the author. Yet, it still amazes me anytime I react to such a poem. The emotions that the author pours into every word and every syllable is astounding. Each pause and breath tell a story on their own. I knew that I had to try. I wanted to make people feel the way like I did when I first heard them, but because it was my words that made them react.…

I imagine that most of my classmates probably read this poem the first time and when they were finished thought to themselves, “What the…?”. I know I did! I re-read the poem several times and eventually deciphered most of it. I think that we all probably have that in common. To my dismay, I will, in all probability, never meet my classmates or professor in person.…

Clearly this is a very important poem and we should all learn from this. I did especially because that makes me think what good I could do for people, especially the ones who need the help. I think this poem had went a long way, now you see that movies are being made about heroes around the world. Even though they are fiction, but we can be the real hero to everyone and make a difference in the…

Hope for a better future that makes you strive for something, and may help one get out of a current situation that isn’t so great. This poem reflects on how some are not even given a chance to have a dream, and how without that hope of a new dream, one can be weighed down greatly by everyday life. Those in the poem are not given a choice to do anything but the ‘involuntary plan already handed to them. The dream in the poem is always seen as unattainable, and that could be why it is only a thought in the back of their minds and unimportant to them, just as they feel they are unimportant to others. This unimportance makes it easy for them to forget the dream, just as they feel they have been forgotten by those who have created their involuntary…

    Pass or Fail Poem

There are always obtiscals in life that we face. In this poem it says "No matter how you succed awake, asleep there is a test waiting to be failed" (1252). Yes this can be realted to school but I see that in life no matter what you do there is always a test that you can either fail or pass. We mite not relize that they are tests but each and eveyday god gives us test that we can either pass or fail. They are almost the same as test in school because if you fail you can be punished for them with bad grades, and in life you can be punished with consequences. The author said " The dream beckons with two dull pencils, but you havent even taken the course"(1252). I can relate this to life because with a dream all you have at first is a dream starteing from sctract not knoowing what can happen. Two dull pencils can relate to this because you do not know what your getting yourself into and the trails that come along the way can be very dull . Of course you dont know what can happen because you havent lived your future and thats a course itself.…

This represents the lost in the poem and what people are subconsciously thinking everyday. Lines 1 and 2 epitomize this meaning because it says, "Even when I forget you I go on looking for you." This leads on to how life is symbolized in the poem as well. People go their whole lives not realizing they are lost and need time to themselves to become the person they have the potential to be. Some follow behind others and are just a copy of the person next to them, in effect they are not their own person and the things they do are not of their true choice. This symbolism is conveyed in the last two lines as it says, "What they say you who are not lost when I do not find you." In conclusion you are not truly living life if you are not living as yourself and as the…

There are certain elements to a poem or a short story that can capture a reader and draw them in. Whether it is an unforgettable setting, or a character that captures your imagination, every piece of literature shares some of the same elements. All literature is written differently and therefore interpreted differently. That is what is so great about literature, it allows the reader to use their imagination and develop their own take and what it means to them. While many short stories and poems may possess the same elements, such as plot, theme, tone, or point of view, they are not interpreted the same. What one person gets out of a short story or poem, may not be what another gets from it. I will talk about some of these elements and my take on them in the selections I have chosen.…

This is my favourite poem as it describes hope by using a powerful array of metaphors to enhance its effect. While it is true that many people all over the world live in extremely challenging and life threatening situations, leading hard lives in appalling conditions. What keeps people going in such circumstances is the glimmer of hope that things can change. This is one thought that came to mind when first reading the poem and this is what attracted me to it and as it relates to any hopeless situations it really does apply to all aspects of life.…
