Toni Cade Bambara's Raymond Run
People can talk in many ways to show their true nature. In Toni Cade Bambara’s story, “Raymond Run”, the characters speak in many different and unique ways. From how Squeaky and the characters talk, the readers can figure out what type of person he/she is and what his/her life is like. Squeaky is interesting due to how they talk about slang, rhythm, and the variety of sentences they use. In this story, Squeaky uses a lot of slang when she talks to show us about herself, and with that, we can see that she is tough. An example is when Squeaky once said, “I don't feature a whole lot of chit-chat, I much prefer to just knock you down”(Bambara 4). Because of how she says this, the readers know that she doesn't like talking a lot and would rather get to the point which shows that she …show more content…
Some people think that multitasking can be very tough, but Squeaky does it easily. Rhythm also plays a major part in this story. The rhythm that Squeaky uses can also be important in many of the things she shows us about herself. Sometimes she talks as though she is afraid and excited. The rhythm pulls readers into Squeaky’s world, which shows that she is very dedicated to running and how she normally is. An example of this is when she says “Tomorrow I’m going to run the quarter-meter relay all by myself and come in first, second, and third”(Barbara 1). This shows that Squeaky is very dedicated to running and is full of herself. Squeaky usually talks to get straight to the point, but when it's about something she likes, the sentences become long. Squeaky likes getting to the point right away. The way she talks makes some people who also like to get to the point like her relate to themselves. Squeaky says, “I much rather just knock you down and take my chances even if I am a little girl with skinny arms.”(Bambara 1) This shows that she likes making everything simple and short to get straight to the point. Sometimes she uses longer

Point of view is an essential element to a reader's comprehension of a story. The point of view shows how the narrator thinks, speaks, and feels about any particular situation. In Toni Cade Bambara's "The Lesson," the events are told through the eyes of a young uptown girl named Sylvia. The reader gets a limited point of view because the events are told strictly by Sylvia. This fact can influence the reader to see things just as she does. The strong language gives a unfamiliar reader an illustration…

2012 Lesson Learned In almost every literary work, there is a lesson learned by the narrator of the story through other characters and/or occurring events. Two short stories that have this happen are Lan Samantha Chang’s “Water Names” and Toni Cade Bambara’s “The Lesson.” In both of these stories, adults are teaching the lesson to the children. However, this lesson is taught in an entirely different approach in one story than it is in the other. Waipuo of “Water Names” requires thorough attention…

Raymond’s Run, a short story by Toni Cade Bambara, was an anticlimactic story that I strongly disliked. It was introduced to me in ways that were completely irrelevant to the plot of the story, its title was very misleading, and the plot was childish and disappointing. Firstly, I was introduced to Raymond’s Run with three words: runner, disability, and responsibility. After reading the story, I saw that these three words made me believe that the story would be about a boy, Raymond, who had a disability…

In “Raymonds Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky is a very confident and kind person. When Squeaky explains the fifty yard dash, she says, “There’s no track meet that I don’t win”(289). This shows how Squeaky is round because Bambara gives a lot detail about who Squeaky is and how she is very confident about herself, but never thinks that anyone could be as good as her. At the end of the dash, Squeaky says, “I can retire and coach Raymond”(295). This determines that Squeaky is a dynamic person…
