Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines By Pablo Neruda Analysis
I can not say I have not lost anyone, be it physically or emotionally. I wanted to write about how I felt knowing that paper would not have the ability to judge me. However my lack of will to do so stood in the way and I was not able to provide an output. “Tonight I can Write the Saddest Lines” is a poem written by Pablo Neruda and, unlike me, he was able to express himself. I can not say he has gone through whatever he has written but through his heartfelt piece, I have felt the emotions one feels if ever they do go through a heartbreak. With the evidences written by different authors, I believe that the said poem is a piece of literature. First, literature, as given in the handout, has emotional value. The poem made me, as a reader, feel his pain as though it was my own. His emotions as he reminisces his past lover was very clear and that made the readers sympathize. “My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her”, a line in the poem that shows how hard it is for him to fill an empty void. The readers either related to that statement or felt sorrow for his misfortune. It made me feel about how hard it is to …show more content…
It teaches its readers, at the same time, makes them enjoy the piece. The poem has an ethical value. I can say I enjoy writing materials if they have brought me emotional pain or happiness. As given previously, I have felt emotions. I have also learned something, that is to accept the fact that you will lose people, important or not. “To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her”, it makes you think about the people around you who might not stick with you to the end. Despite this depressing fact, I have also learned that, although it may be difficult, people would be able to leave the past behind. Neruda wrote, “These the last verses that I write for her”, signifying that he will try to not let it haunt him

Poetry is not something that I would normally be interested in. I’ve tried writing poetry only to end up a dismal failure. I’ve tried to read poetry only to end up bored halfway through. I’ve always wanted to be one of those soulful poetic types who walk around with a serene look on their faces, snapping their fingers when something tickles their fancy but I’ve never quite made that transition. Poetry, to me, seems to be a fanciful, ethereal pursuit that has somehow always gone over my head no matter how hard I’ve tried. Since I’ve failed miserably at being a poet or even enjoying poetry, you can imagine my surprise when I read “Dog’s Death” and not only enjoyed it but it touched my heart. A good poem knows how to grab not only the reader’s attention but will snag the reader’s emotions and take them on a roller coaster; whether it has a happy or a sad ending the poem should keep the reader’s interest until the end.…

Imagine being abused, hit, yelled at, and left alone without the most important feeling of love. Growing up without a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold. How would these actions sculpt you as an individual? Would they compel you to do the same actions to your own loved ones, or show them love and compassion, which your life had lacked? Poets tend to write pieces of literature as reflections back on their personal lives, describing situations that stay afloat in their heads. Sharon Olds’ happened to be one of these poets, who expressed her upsetting past relationship with her father and current relationships with her children through these works of art. In Olds’ first poems, she…

I remember when I first experienced goosebumps raise on my arms and send a shiver through my body, simply because the words leaving the speaker's lips left such an imprint on me. I didn’t think that a simple sentence could bring tears to my eyes, could cause me to react in any physical way. I didn’t even know the author. Yet, it still amazes me anytime I react to such a poem. The emotions that the author pours into every word and every syllable is astounding. Each pause and breath tell a story on their own. I knew that I had to try. I wanted to make people feel the way like I did when I first heard them, but because it was my words that made them react.…

The two poems I chose to write about are Elizabeth Bishops “One Art” and “What my lips have kissed” by Edna St. Vincent Millay’s. I chose both of these because they both in a way are describing love, and loss for something or someone. Even though they do not come right out and say it, both poems deal with love and the loss they have experienced. In Bishops poem she talks about how losing comes at ease and how nothing that has been lost has been disastrous. However, in the last stanza of her poem I believe she is talking about the loss of her lover and her talking about it in her poem is how she is coping. She says “may look like (Write it!) like disaster” in the last stanza of her poem is how I believe she is coping with the loss of her lover.…

Many individuals do not always take the time to look further into different forms of art. However, there are individuals who use the arts to express themselves and any issues that affect them. Listening to songs or reading poems requires the listener/reader to visualize what the artist is expressing in their work. A film or a play provides the visual example to the audience. This way one can get a better understanding of how things are or how they are seen by others. These forms of art presented a straightforward method in which grief is seen in the eyes of different artists. The arts are very important, not just for beautiful pictures or nice melodies; art allows the expression to those providing the…

I began writing in that journal as if I had written for years, pouring my heart out and staining those pages with my hurt filled anguish and severely damaged perceptions of love. Staining those lines with lead and eraser marks began to lift off a burdensome mountain of oppression put upon me by my child hood, allowing me to be reborn anew, like a phoenix from the ash of death. I began to share more with my social workers and slowly began to feel again! To appreciate life in it’s most little of simplicities was something I could have never experienced without the power to write. And that is why I can relate to “Why I Write”, by Joan Didion. The first descriptive sentence says so much. In fact, she need not say more. Joan Didion…

Many poems, although very unique, share important features that help us as the audience better understand what people go through in their lifetime. There are instances where the reader can feel what the poet is feeling and that is what makes a great poet differ from an ordinary poet. As in anything, poetry is subjective to each individual and one person might look at a piece of poetry one way or experience it another way. In the poem, “Alone”, by Edgar Allan Poe, the speaker of the poem who is Poe, shows his true self to the reader and is not ashamed to hide anything. He is interpreting his life and wants the reader to understand him. This is similar to the poem in Spanish, “El Poeta” by Pablo Neruda. Another important poem is the French poem,…

    R. Martin once said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” Literature develops the imagination and gives everyone a chance to live many different lives. While reading, anyone can step out of their own skin and into someone else’s for a while. It gives the mind wings, so that even those who are physically grounded can fly just like the raven from the work in question in their imagination. It also allows people to learn about harmful experiences without going through them. It promotes empathy and allows people to feel what others are bearing. In “The Raven”, the woman the narrator loves passed away, and readers are shown the misery his life becomes afterwards. It can teach them to empathize with people who are experiencing something difficult such as the loss of a loved…

The Loss of a Loved One

Individuals have their own way to express emotions. Writers express sadness and love by writing poetry. “Annabel Lee,” by Edgar Allan Poe, is a lyrical ballad that tells a story of a young couple in love, and how the man responds to the early death of his beloved. The male narrator is also the main character of the poem, which makes this ballad different from the usual ones because, beyond the story, there is also an emotional expression. The poem’s narrator, like Poe himself, is a depressed and angry man who tries to understand the loss of his beloved. Both the narrator and Poe are poor, which is suggested by the poem when the narrator refers to the woman’s relatives as “highborn kinsmen”(line 17). Therefore, the depressed outlook and financial pressure reinforce even more that this poem is not just a ballad, but also an emotional expression of the author.…
