Finally, the last set of words had the least amount of different responses. The question was “What do you call the piece of playground equipment consisting of a long board with seats on the ends?” Unsurprisingly, this was the most answered question of the three, while the other two had the space left blank or answered question mark. Being born and raised in the Northwest Missouri area, I personally have only heard people refer to it as a seesaw. It’s intresting to see that seesaw had a little less then 400, while teeter totter broke over 600. Keeping in mind this survery started on a college campus in the Northwest area, it shows that sometimes a certain words do not define a region but can at the same time. This question is the best one to see if there is any form of isogloss since there is only two answers given.…
Some of the redeeming qualities of this book are the true value of friendship, which is represented through all of the characters in this book. It also teaches us the importance of honesty. If Lucky was honest with Bridgette about her feelings instead of just running away, it would have saved her a lot of heartache, and the feelings of one of her best friends, Miles. This book also encourages the use of your imagination to decide what lucky’s higher power is, one of my favorite aspects of this book.…
Ponyboy and his friends are caught in a hurricane of dramatic events that start after the night someone took it too far. After a couple of breath taking scenes, you race through the chapters in uncertainty. The events trip over each other in suspense that come to a jolting stop. In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the author writes an exhilarating…
I rate this book a perfect 10 because of the amount of interest I had while reading it. This book is written for young adult and is great for those who could relate to the same situation as Melinda. This is the kind of book that you would not want to put down once you start reading it. This book also makes a…
Ellsworth Toohey and Gail Wynand each epitomize the ultimate second-hander. They are intoxicated by power: the authority and manipulation they exercise against others. Despite their similar lust for power, the two men aspire to contrasting end goals. Whereas Wynand utilizes power as a tool, Toohey chases power as an end unto itself. In this way, both Toohey and Wynand serve to contrast and foreground the perfect egoist, Howard Roark.…

novel, A Bridge to Wiseman’s Cove, depicts the coming-of-age of an ordinary teenage boy named Carl Matt. Through the experiences of the protagonist Carl and other characters, Maloney highlights every human being’s deepest need for love and acceptance and demonstrates the significance of understanding where one belongs. Coming from a broken home, Carl and his brother Harley have never experienced the safety and security of a loving and wholesome family, which damages Carl’s sense of self-worth and causes Harley to become a rebellious delinquent. However, through the unconditional love and tenderness shown by Joy and Skip Duncan and by Justine, Carl and Harley are able to find healing and are finally liberated from the pain, fear, and insecurity caused by their past. Maddy Duncan also learns the importance of accepting true love. Although she is from a stable family, she is deceived by the distorted and selfish ‘love’ of Nathan Trelfo and unbeknownst to her, she becomes a miserable person. It is only when she understands who genuinely loves and cares for her that she finds true happiness.…

It is a gloomy, sad story of a boy who comes of age early and is involved in relationships (innocent) at the age of seven. This however works as a hook for the author through which he grabs a hold of the mind of young teens going through similar stages.…

It's about a young extremely poor writer (Ernest Hemingway) and his journeys throughout Paris. The book is centered around him, tons of amazing writers and the city itself. He speaks of many people he met who evolved him and his writing, things he loved doing, along with things that he didn't. You get a feel of his life style, preferences, struggles and the electric vibes of the city.…
