Topic : Should students work part time during university studies? Working part time of students is the extra works which are not prohibited by law while they are studying at the universities such as working in companies, societies, households with the goal earning extra income, learning and gain experience. Today, almost all students work part time. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 80% students today are working 20 – 30 hours a week. (Bureau of Labor Statistics’ study (as cited in Nick, S., 2010))(1). According to Mrs. Nhung - the manager of students support center: Today, recruitment criteria of business is graduation with fairly, good enclose criteria working part time during university studies (Van de viec lam them doi voi sinh vien hien nay, p.45)(2). There for, students should work part time during university studies. Some people may argue that students shouldn’t work part time during university studies because it reduces students’ success at the university. They believe that working part time will take a part of students’ time in studying at home. And they won’t have less time for revision lessons at the university. Thus, their study result will decrease. However, it isn’t true that working part time takes a part of students’ time for revision at home because working part time does not always take a part students’ time for revision at home. The fact that there are students working part time still have enough time for revision at home because they choose part time jobs that occupy in reasonable time interval without reducing enough their time for revision at home. Even if it is true that working part time will reduce students’ time for revision at home it isn’t not sure that study results will reduce too. For example : Students work part time and have less time for revision at home but they have the way using efficiently both time in class and at home their study result absolutely might not reduce. It is clear that students should work part time during university studies. Firstly, working part time helps students earn extra income to share a part of burden with parents. Today, tuition fee as well as goods for daily life is increasing. For instance: Foreign Trade university’s tuition fee increased to one hundred fifty thousand VND this year. As a result, students need more money to pay those increasing terms. And the majority of students at the universities are from middle, ordinary families. There for, working part time helps students pay a part fees of daily life also share a part of burden with parents. Secondly, working part time helps students gain some experience. Working part time helps students manage time better, more confident. “Studies show that students working part time are more confident and possess better time-management skills than students who are not employed. In addition to offering a paycheck, some independence and satisfaction, a part-time job can provide both training and experience”. (Students & part time work)(3). There for, students should work part time because it helps them earn extra money to share a part burden with parents and gain some experience. “Admission representatives want to find candidates who demonstrate maturity, responsibility, independence and initiative — and good workers certainly demonstrate those important character traits," and "Employers can write excellent recommendation letters for the students who have worked for them." Boshoven says. (Boshoven (as cited in Students & part time work))(3). Thus, now students should work at least a part time job during university studies before it is too late.

Steinberg tells the affects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.…

All of the positives about having a part-time job have one big caveat. Students cannot usually be employed more than 20 hours per week or their grades begin to suffer, they do less homework, and they are more likely to drop out (Gisler & Eberts, 2016). Your grades could suffer more if you were without a job than if you had a job during school. The busier you are, the more focused you become. Working really makes you more structured; you have a lot of things to do in a short amount of time, so it’s important to keep up with it all (Laskowski, 2009). So, if they get paid for grades and don’t get a job because you don’t have to, you won’t be structured as if you had a…

Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.…
