Tortilla Sun Analysis
In “Confetti Girl”, and “Tortilla Sun”, there are different points of views in the two story that causes tension. In “Confetti Girl”, written by Diana Lopez, and “Tortilla Sun”, written by Jennifer Cervantes, the two story have tension between the daughters and the parents. The daughters can’t seem to understand what their parents are trying to do, and the parents can’t understand what their daughters want. “Confetti Girl” is about the daughter not wanting to do her homework, even when the dad is trying to help out the best he can. “Tortilla Sun” is about Izzy, the daughter, not understanding what her mother is trying to do to help make both their lives better. If they all sit down and talk to each other more than maybe they could figure something out. …show more content…
According to the text, after she said she left her book in her locker, the dad said, “Nonsense. I’ve got a copy somewhere, let me look.” The dad just wants to help his daughter, but she thinks that all he thinks about is her school work. My thesis that she is a bit too lazy and doesn’t care about her work is proven. By reading the text in the story, it says, “As soon as he leaves, I put the book on my nightstand and use it as a coaster.” No respect for the book that her dad gave her to read. In “Tortilla Sun” Izzy, the daughter, is told by her mother that she has to take Izzy to her grandma’s place so she can finish her research. Izzy doesn’t want to go to her grandma’s, she wants to stay home. Trying to tell her her that she has a reason, the mother says that she is doing this, “for the best,” as said in the text. Since this is not what she wants to hear, Izzy decides not to listen and locks herself in her room. She doesn’t even let her mother in. if Izzy just talked to her mother more, then maybe something could have been worked

Both the short stories “Taco Head” and “Mr. Entwhistle” convey an important message; [sometimes it’s necessary to overlook wrongdoings and remain calm, even if it’s difficult.] Both protagonists Kate and Sofia are placed n sticky situations when they are verbally abused (Kate by the substitute teacher, Mr. Entwhistle, and Sofia by her own classmates). In Julia Alvarez’s short story, ”Nombres”, and in the visual, “Graduation Day”, both depict the common theme that people should embrace their culture and heritage. In “Nombres”, the theme can be seen when Julia's mother states, “You know what (Julia’s) friend Shakespeare said, ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet’,” (Alvarez Pg. 1). This shows that Julia’s mother doesn’t want her to be ashamed of where she comes from, and that she should embrace her name. This theme is also evident in the visual,” Graduation Day”. The fact that the loving daughter, who just graduated from school, is hugging her hard-working father, shows that she is grateful for him, and that she is proud of him. Also in “Graduation Day”, the daughters decorated graduation…

“Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel has many complex and interesting ways of presenting and developing its characters. In this essay, I will present and explain some of the ways Laura Esquivel builds the character Tita from birth to nurturing, the role of her family and predetermined paths to show Tita as an imprisoned trapped character in the early chapters of the novel.…

Izzy is impacted by the isolation from her mother as she searches for understanding and acceptance from Mia. Later in the story Mrs. Richardson got flashbacks of Izzy when “they went to the pool, Lexie and Trip and Moody were allowed to splash in the shallow end, but Izzy- then aged four had to sit on a towel, coated in sunscreen and shaded by an umbrella.” (NG 111). Mrs. Richardson was very strict on Izzy, not allowing her to do certain things with her siblings since she was a little kid. The experience Izzy has of being isolated from family activities from a young age shapes her behavior and decision processes for the future.…

Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun explores one extended family’s journey toward social and economic agency against the turbulent backdrop of post-World War II America. While Hansberry speaks to the idea of dreams deferred, she also emphasizes that the path to home ownership and social presence promises to be a significant undertaking for the Younger family. Hansberry offers pointed commentary on the frustration of African Americans (embodied in the Youngers’ experiences), who exist as second-class denizens without the rights of true citizenship. Consistent with this commentary are the dominant and reoccurring themes of social and heritage displacement that threaten to relegate the Youngers to an ephemeral existence.…

Sometimes it might not seem like our parents care, but they do, they just want the best for us in life. Authors often use tension in a story for the readers to want more. Even when we think that our parents don't like us, or don't pay us enough attention, only cares about their job , whether it be a teacher or in school as they are in the passages, they are just doing what they think is right even when you disagree. In “ Tortilla Sun “ and “ Confetti Girl “, they both use tension and a sense of hopelessness, towards their parent. In “ Confetti Girl “ by Jennifer Cervantes and “ Tortilla Sun “ by Dina Lopez, both authors show tension and anger and hopelessness through the passages by the narrator's expressing their feelings about the situation.…

The film, Like Water for Chocolate, represents a story through incorporating the idea of food as feelings and expressing the woman's roles during the Mexican Revolution. The film is a romantic-comedy showing many joking ways of hard times and soft issues and the way of life. The most striking and theme seems to be how women seem to be in charge rather then males; during this time period, I thought that men were more likely to be the head of the household and in charge.…

The will to defy order in society spurs chaos, but eventually, this chaos emerges as the new order. Chaos and order seem to contrast by definition. However, I hypothesize that chaos and order both reinforce each other after analyzing Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel, and Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. Particularly, Like Water for Chocolate tells the life story of Tita de la Garza and her struggle to acquire her love, Pedro Muzquiz. The diction that Esquivel uses to narrate the preparation of specific Mexican dishes illustrate the emotions that the characters experience, and they reveal the adverse effects of unrequited love on our life. That is to say, each diverse dish represents a particular event of Tita’s life, and the recipes and remedies that…
