The threat of terrorism is a reality that most were oblivious to until the horrific day of September 11, 2001. Its’ images will forever be imprinted on the minds of the unfortunate ones who watched the tragic death of thousands. Many believe that the United States was ill prepared and ignorant of crucial information. What would happen if they had a terrorist who knew of the attack but would not talk? How far do you go to potentially save the lives of thousands? In critical situations, the torture of a terrorist is mandatory. Although it is inhumane and cruel, torture is the only way to get information out of a terrorist who would rather die then cooperate. The truth serum is not as effective as people make it out to be in the movies. In reality it is drug that can not be depended on to find out crucial information from a dangerous terrorist. Dr. Piper then adds, “There’s no such thing as truth serum.” This further proves that torture is the only reliable way to get information from a terrorist.
Lastly, people tend to look back on United State’s promise in the Geneva Convention after World War II. The Geneva Convention states, Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, color, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
