Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to determine the critical success factors in the implementation of TPM and establishing a relationship among them.
Approach – All the enabling variables responsible for successfully implementing TPM were identified through literature review. ISM and MIC MAC analysis were applied to find out the levels of their influence in the implementation of TPM.
Findings – Among all the identified variables; Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Cross functional Employee Integration, HR Competency, 5S, Employee Flexibility and Employee suggestions are identified to be the critical enablers.
Research implications – A systematic approach to investigate the effects of aggressive TPM implementation plan for meeting the global standards.
Practical implications – The study focuses on the need of implementing TPM initiatives to enhance the existing maintenance practices.
Originality/value – The research establishes relationship between the variables, affecting TPM implementation, that were identified through intensive literature review.
Keywords - Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Cross functional Employee Integration, HR Competency, 5S, Employee Flexibility and Employee suggestions, TPM, ISM, MICMAC Analysis.
Introduction
Generally Maintenance has been considered as a support function not as a main part. Though it is a Non-productive activity & not a core function adding little value to the product, but most of the manufacturers recognized that the importance of the assets & machines to the operation’s function & an effective strategy can significantly contribute through adding value to the production activities. Ultimately TPM aims to provide an effective & efficient maintenance approach in a manufacturing
