Tourism is the marketing of the enjoyable and other features of a travel destination and the provision of facilities and services to pleasure travellers. In addition, it is the social, cultural and economic phenomenon where people move to countries or places outside their usual environment for personal and business purposes.
Nowadays, more people travel so therefore tourism is more lucrative/important than ever to countries. While it is undoubtly true that tourism is beneficial, there are still some pressing concerns.
It is obvious that tourism brings to a country many benefits. Some advantages are:
1. Plenty jobs are created.
2. More revenue is derived from travellers. Subsequently, this revenue makes a great contribution to the economy through foreign exchange. Foreign exchange leads to improvements of infrastructure, public services, education, hotels etc.
3. Travelling is a way to exchange cultures between different countries. In addition, this would allow people to learn cultures as well as the history of countries, appreciate them and learn how to deal with people within an international organisation. In essence, employers would respect their employees and vice versa and this also goes for any human relationship or friendship.
However, there are some drawbacks of tourism. These include:
1. Tourists can be a source of some serious illnesses.
2. Since tourists can easily access the country most times, crime and the importation of illegal drugs can increase. In relation to crime (roberries and killings), it can also affect tourist arrivals when crime levels in a country are very high.
