Toy Story: The Seventh Beatitude By Disney Pixar

Toy Story is a classic children’s film that really teaches kids life lessons. Who would have thought a Disney Pixar movie about living toys would relate to our everyday lives and god’s Beatitudes. Young children watch movies with hidden messages, that they will need to understand and fulfil later in life. The characters in this movie all show the basics of the Beatitudes and how to achieve them. The first Beatitude is “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This means being humble, understanding that without God we are nothing, and admitting we have room for growth. Over the course of the movie there were many examples of this, though when Woody asked Sid’s toys for help it was a realistic moment of showing humility. He had asked the toys to help him save Buzz, whom he had concerned his only friend at the time. Woody was admitting that he wasn’t perfect and couldn’t save Buzz on his own, thus pleading for help. He showed that he needed to grow because admitting weakness assists us in becoming better people. Personally, I find it hard to admit I have flaws because being vulnerable is a scary feeling. Though when one has the courage like Woody did, it gives strength and humility.

In the beginning of the story Woody calmed everyone down while they argued and freaked out about Andy’s presents. He was a peacemaker that brought peace and tranquility to the toys. Without hitting anyone he created peace among them, so no violence is ever needed to achieve peace. Buzz and Woody come together later and they can both be considered peacemakers. They talked through their problems without using physical harm. In which we create peace it expresses the virtue of peace, meaning creating unity among people without physical
