Tracy Buemont In This Is My America
The character I am picking to go over is the main character, Tracy Buemont in the book This Is My America. Tracy is the central character and the brother of Jamal Buemont, the daughter of Vanessa Buemont, sister to Corrine Buemont, and the daughter of James Buemont. Tracy attends Galveston High School along with her older brother, Jamal. Tracy has dreams of becoming an editor for her school newspaper. James Buemont was arrested for an alleged murder when Tracy was a child and is currently on death row. Jamal is accused of a murder as well and is on the run from the police; Tracy is working on finding evidence to let them both free. Tracy in this book is trying to free her father from death row because he doesn't have that much time left to live. …show more content…
In that chapter, the mother and two daughters go and visit the dad and reunite briefly. Tracy and her father share a bonding moment after finally reuniting, but it was shortly ruined by the time limit for checking in with the prisoners. Towards the end, the guards told them to leave because their time was up, but James Buemont and Tracy were still hugging, forcing them to separate and the dad to go back in line. This shows her bond and love for her father is great, even when they're apart. Jamal is a track star for their high school and he had an interview in which Tracy ruined in her outburst for acknowledging her father's false imprisonment, trying to bring attention to his case. Jamal later on in the chapter, “Baby Got Back Burners” in the text with Angela he states that Tracy was right about using his interview as an opportunity to talk about his fathers case. This shows they are on the same page and both want to help their father get out of prison. Jamal also helped Tracy get through school when their father was arrested and stood up for her.
