The book I chose to read for my summer homework was In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. Pollan has written many books regarding what to eat and how the foods we consume affect us. In this book, he opens with simple advice, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants” (Pollan 1). As straightforward as it sounds, Pollan quickly demonstrates how complicated this can be. However, there are whole foods, stuff you’d find at a farmer’s market, and then there are the foods that line up the walls of our supermarkets, highly processed snacks and “foods” that contain a mirade of unpronounceable ingredients. Many of these foods processed foods, especially those that make health claims such as “low-fat”, “lowers…

The success of the French in North America was largely due to the associations they developed with the American Indians, and the fur trading that provided animal pelts that were in high demand throughout Europe. The French built missions and worked to convert the Indians to Christianity, they settled primarily in Canada and the Great Lakes. France attempted to pioneer several settlements throughout North America that failed because of war with other countries, bad weather and diseases. Even though the French population was extremely small compared to the English they were still a major contender in North America because of their relations with the Indians. The French had the support of American Indians in staggering numbers during the four wars with England.…

Tracking my daily food intake is not new to me since I have followed Weight-Watcher’s in the past and keeping a food diary is a cornerstone of the program. However, the difference is Weight-Watcher’s food tracking was paper-based and I used www.fitday.com to analyze my food intake this time.
