In the story traditions are connected to beliefs. They believe that if the “winner” of the lottery is stoned to death the crops will be heavier. On page three it states that there used to be a saying about ‘Lottery in June, crops be heavy soon.’ This shows how tradition is important. People still believe that the traditions they have are important.
The people in the village honor their traditions. The village people honor their traditions VERY strongly. The “lottery” has been around for as
long as anyone can remember. Old Man Warner says that it has been around for at least 77 years. Still to this day people honor there traditions by still doing them yearly, monthly, or even weekly. Traditions are said to also bring people together. The lottery brings all of the people together unless something happens seriously. Over many years traditions have brought millions together. Now days around Christmas lots of people are traveling around the world to be brought together to honor their traditions. In the story the “lottery” is the tradition bringing everyone together in this case.
