As a law enforcement officer, I have obtained a various set of skills during my early career. As an officer, I was trained to fight, protect, and serve. With that said, I expect to bring my fighting skills throughout my academic journey to continue to push through, no matter how exhausted I am or how bad I want to give up. Believe it or not, I have a certain amount of time to get things done out in the field, so I expect to bring my time management skills to stay on task to get all work completed in a timely manner as if I was out in the field. Accepting ones feedback is another skill I will bring to the program because I am always up for learning knew things and, I try to keep an opened mind. Some skills I will need to develop consist of myself constantly checking emails and messages, not necessarily for communication purposes but for updates on assignments, and logging in daily to get acclimated going back to school.
I agree that focusing on one thing at a time is a more effective way to accomplish goals because often when you multi-task, you tend to forget your train of thought or miss something.
Focusing on one thing at a time allows you to have well put together thoughts versus when you are multi-tasking. It may take you longer to accomplish goals but you tend to have less mistakes and errors. Multi-tasking is a great skill to possess, however, focusing on one thing at a time is more feasible to some. Myself personally, I can multi-task because of the profession I am in and I enjoy doing so. I often do not think about myself multi-tasking because I am use to doing it, and I was trained that way so it has become second nature to me. However, if I had the option to focus on one task at a time, I more than likely would not do so because I am accustomed to multi-tasking and I get a lot of things accomplished that way. It just all depends on what type of individual you are and if you work well taking your time or work well at a fast
pace.
