This quotation is spoken by Mercutio to Romeo. Benvolio and Mercutio are trying to persuade Romeo to join them in a masquerade. Romeo is reluctant to to join them. He rather be alone with his love-sick misery about Rosaline not returning his love and Mercutio is trying to cheer up Romeo. This passage is significant because it shows Mercutio`s and Romeo`s deferring view of love. We see that Romeo is passionate, emotional, and embraces his sadness. He feels that love is rough because of his past experiences that dealt with love. On the other hand, Mercutio is practical, and thinks things thoroughly. “If love be rough with you, be rough with love: Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down”. This passage tells us that Mercutio believes that love can be controlled. Mercutio is basically saying that love can cause great pain, so you must take control over love. This statement also is personifying love of being rough with Romeo. He is telling Romeo that if love hurts him, he should hurt it back and defeat it. “Give me a case to put my visage in. A visor for a visor”! This statement tells us how Mercutio thinks he is an ugly person, thus asking for an ugly cover mask for an ugly face.…

I was eight when I first stepped onto the icy slopes where people glide side to side down the steep hills of tall mountains. Mastering the “pizza” and “fries” on the baby bunny hill, I was no Olympic skier my first time. Skiing for the first time was a chilling and daunting experience, but once I accomplished the skill of not falling, I soon fell in love. I have ventured on multiple ski trips since and each has been more exhilarating than the last. There is a true sense of freedom that some people can only imagine, standing on top of a peak, miles of emptiness all around you - no cars, buildings, or roads - just the mountain, the wind, and yourself.…

According to the website nationsonline.org the Chinese civilization begins with Pangu who is the creator of the universe. The 21st to 16th centuries BCE is known as the Xia dynasty. This is when the lunar calendar was created. This calendar was created to benefit agriculture. This helped them determine the proper times for watering crops, seeding, and gathering harvest. During the Qin dynasty from 221 to 206 BCE the calendar was modified to 24 periods of 15 days each. This helped determine the seasonal changes during the year. The position of the sun is represented by 12 animals. In 104 BCE Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty (206 BCE to 220CE) approved of a calendar change that marked the beginning of the year by the appearance of the first new moon after the sun enters the 11th sign of zodiac. The first day is also called the “beginning of spring”. Since then the Chinese New Year’s Day is also known as a “spring festival”. When the republic of China was founded in 1912 the government decided to adopt the Gregorian calendar to be the public calendar. The lunar calendar is still used as part of the tradition to determine special dates that were created like the festival of spring which is dependent from this…

Viet Nam celebrates a lot of holidays in a year. In my opinion, Vietnamese Lunar New Year, also called Tet Nguyen Dan, is the most important and joyful holiday. It is celebrated on the first day of the first month in Lunar Calendar. Tet’s celebration is the longest holiday that has usually lasted for six days. Tet Nguyen Dan is an occasion for Vietnamese people to express their respect and remembrance for their ancestor as well as welcoming the New Year with their beloved family members. On December 30th , all of family members gather to have a big last meal for the old year, sharing all feeling, experiences gained through the whole year together. They tell each other their happy or even sad stories . Three days before Tet, Vietnamese people usually clean their houses carefully, polish every utensil, and decorate the house with many colors: Mai trees with yellow or white flowers, Peach-blossom branches with pink flowers, Watermelon with green color, and votive papers with red color. To celebrate Tet, parents usually buy children new clothes and shoes to wear on the first day of New Year. Besides, Vietnamese people cook or buy many Vietnamese good food. For example, Banh Chung, a rice cake, stuffed it with cooked bean paste and ground meat in the middle, boiled chicken, picked onions, and Vietnamese sausage. According to Vietnamese traditional custom, on the first three day of the New Year, Vietnamese people visit paternal side on the first day, maternal on the second day, teachers on the third day. After that, they come and see their relatives, friends, and neighbors. Although all of my families have been living in the United States, we usually try to get together to celebrate Vietnamese Lunar New Year every year. To do so, we try to educate our offspring how to remember and preserve Vietnamese traditional custom.…
