The symbolism of fences in this story is to take responsibility and keep family close together, fed, clothed, protected etc. Meanwhile, the fence acts as a shield to keep the "devil" death, and evil outside of their home and family. 3. The connections that I found is that no matter where the time goes or at what age one is, people still have dreams. Dreams do not go away, but they may be ultered because of the choices we make and the different paths of life we may take. In the play Troy wanted to be a professional athlete, but due to the era which he lived african americans were not looked at fairly when it came to playing time.
