2. Never give up, even when the odds are stacked against you. There were several occasions when Jim could have easily conceded. An example of this is when Jim was fighting Israel Sands for control of the schooner and got a knife wound in his arm. After the knife wound Jim outsmarted and killed Israel for control of the schooner. Another occasion when Jim persevered was when he stayed loyal to Doctor Livesey even though the pirates outmanned their group. One of the biggest decisions Jim made in the book was when he decided to take the schooner and hide it. The schooner held valuable supplies for the pirates including gunpowder, guns, and food. He hid it so that the doctor and all the other good men could use it to escape with the treasure. Jim saw that the pros of taking the schooner from the pirates far outweighed the con of risking his life for it. Jim was right, it was worth taking the schooner, and all the supplies stored on it away from the pirates.
4. The main conflict in Treasure Island was the fight over the treasure between the pirates and the good men on board the schooner. The good men were outnumber nearly three to one. Their superior tactics led them to win skirmishes against the pirates and lessen their numbers. The good men find the treasure and the pirates are left scratching their heads.
