Trail Side Deli, which started in April 2014 and relocated to its current address, 1497 S. Washington St., a year later, has grown to offer customers much more than a full variety of meats and cheeses, custom assembled for a sandwich or sliced for home use, said owner Lou Miller.
Relocation of the business, she said, came a bit earlier than anticipated, according to Miller, who referred to the opportunity as a “God thing.”

And, an in-store dining area gives customers the option to eat in or carry out, supplementing their meal with a side of homemade potato or macaroni salad, chip and a drink.
“The main thing is our fresh deli meats and cheeses,” she said, noting customers appreciate not only the convenience, but the affordable pricing, accented with weekly specials. An ongoing special is the Friday lunch offering of a BLT, served on homemade bread.
The produce, she said, they fell into accidentally and in response to customer demands.
Bulk items include all the essentials for baking, but also nuts, dried fruits, candies, herbs and spices. They also feature canned good from Jake and Amos and Grandma's Jam House.
A corner gift shop soon will be converted to a flower shop, which will feature fresh flowers, plants and gifts.
Aside from the growing customer base, Miller said she knows they're meeting a need, just from hearing people talk. “They say they're so glad we're here. They really like the store,” and, she said, many express thanks there's a more local option for some of their specialty needs.
