THERESA and MADISON are sitting on the train. THERESA looks at her phone, checking the time.

MADISON

I'm so sorry.

THERESA

It's okay.

THERESA looks outside.

THERESA

It's my fault.

The train stops.

MADISON

I got to go. Bye.

MADISON exits while THERESA waves.

INT. THERESA AND BONNIE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

THERESA rushes inside. The dining room light is on, it lights up some of the living room.

THERESA

Bonnie, I'm home.

THERESA walks to the dining room through the living room.

BONNIE is at the table. She fiddles with a cake, using a fork. The cake says, Happy Anniversary, on it.

THERESA

Hey there.

(walks forward)

You wouldn't believe the day—

Bonnie

How's Valerie?

BONNIE picks up the empty plates, walking

BONNIE places the plates in the sink.

THERESA

Well, I just bought you a jacket. It has this really nice floral...

BONNIE leaves through the kitchen's other entrance.

THERESA

I mean, I got you those Bluetooth headphones that you wanted, too.

THERESA follows BONNIE into the bedroom.

THERESA

I've been hiding them in the closet for the past few weeks.

BONNIE stops in the middle of the dark room. THERESA turns on the light.

THERESA

What did you get me?

BONNIE turns towards THERESA.

THERESA

Not that it matters. I was just wondering if you got me anything besides that... beautiful cake.

BONNIE

Where did you go today?

THERESA

Oh, I went downtown with Madison and Hazel to this production at Madison's college... or the college she will be going to soon.

BONNIE

And?

THERESA

That's it. Well, it ended late. So, I got here late. I'm really—

BONNIE

Why should I believe you?

PAUSE.

THERESA

Should you have left the cake out?

THERESA walks to the dining room.

BONNIE follows her.

Bonnie

Weren't you saying something?

THERESA

(walks into the kitchen)

Bonnie, I don't want this.

BONNIE

You don't want me?

THERESA

No, of course not.
