Among the other awards he has received are the Punjab Ratan, the Sulabh International award for the most honest indian of the year, and honorary doctorates from several universities. He passed way in 2014 at the age of 99.

Khushwant singh gives us the clear picture of social , political , physical and mental atmosphere . During the period , the people have got their freedom back but they have not realised and thought about the destruction which took place in all over the india especially in Mano Majra .
The major destruction was established at the time when the train arrived to Mano Majra , that contains all the dead people . They all were Sikhs and Hindus . It was considered as the KALYUG – The Dark Age , in the name of revenge the Muslims of Pakistan had killed so many innocents who do not even thought of bad of anyone .
When a train arrives , carrying the bodies of dead Sikhs , the village is transformed into a battlefield , and neither the magistrate nor the police was able to stem the rising tide of violence . Before Independence , Muslims and Indians both were considered as the part of one nation and there was unity among all . This unity and progress as a nation let India to be an Independent nation . it was the people of India who protest with several major political leaders which led to the freedom of Indians . After the Independence the severe changes made the partition between the small part as the Pakistan and the rest the India . These changes had the immense effect on the people of Mano Majra but the effect does not effect the love between the Muslims and the Sikhs . The death of the local money-lender Ram lal creates lots of misunderstandings in the village which created separations and effects the lives severely .
Juggut singh , the village gangster who was in love with a Muslim girl Nooran and her dad Imam Baksh , the mullah of the mosque and was the weaver . Imam was basically called by the name of chacha instead of his real name . He was one of the person who was respected by all the other people there in Mano Majra . Therefore they showed their love and respect to the Muslim community indirectly . Jugga dakoo was arrested for the murder of Ram lal as he was one of the suspect for every crime that took place in Mano Majra
