Transgender Case Study

His name is Casey and he is getting married on January 1st, New Year’s Eve, 2018 to a wonderful person named Violet. They met through friends and hit it off immediately. They dated for several months and in that time Casey decided, “this is the one”, he told his mother, and within the week, he proposed. Violet happily accepted his proposal, and as the cliché’ goes, the rest is history. After reading the articles from transgender pastor Lawrence Richardson I was inspired to share this amazing love story of self and the other. “The rest is history”, for Casey has been both challenging and empowering, heartbreaking and emancipating. Casey was born female, but by the age of six knew he felt different. He felt trapped in his female anatomy and the stereotypical roles he saw many of the women in his family enact.
But he didn’t care. It helped to cover up the breasts he didn’t want. Even with his gentle disposition, Casey would act out, getting into trouble, trying to get the world’s attention and acknowledgement that this shell was not who he was or wanted to be. “Rejecting, ridiculing, teasing and isolating LGBTQ people will not make them “straight” no more than conversion therapy cures people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.
