These rights include Title XI, which in Hinckley’s article it states “the Department of Justice defines as "a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity””. Owing to this violation there was a lawsuit from a sixteen year-old boy Gavin Grimm. Gavin was by a Virginia school board by banning him from using the boys’ restroom. Gavin did end up winning the case he states he “didn’t set out to make waves” what set out for was to “use the bathroom”(Hinckley). In an article written by Kristen Schilt titled “Bathroom Battlegrounds and Penis Panics” Kristen states “Opponents of transgender recognition often brought up the specter of sexual predators in sex-segregated spaces as an argument against the passage of transgender rights legislation.”(27) Some believe predators can use the excuse of transgender people to use the proper bathroom as an ok to enter. Gavin spoke up when he felt discriminated against. He has a voice and let it be heard. When we have the information that he presented to back up his story it is hard to disagree and not be heard. There are schools that are taking action in protecting transgender students. In an article written by Emanuel Gabrielle titled “How Schools Around The Country Are Treating Transgender Student Rights” it states that Francisco Negron who is “the general counsel for the National School Boards Association.” Says, “He says some states, like California and Massachusetts, already have policies aligned with today's guideline.
