The younger crowd gets comfortable at Starbucks or Panera with their laptops and coffee, taking advantage of the free WiFi hotspots and collaborative environments. They want to multitask. They want to socialize with their friends. They want to study for their exam or read the Wall Street Journal. Right now they can’t do those things over an “honest-to-goodness home-style meal”, so they’re not going to Cracker Barrel. If they are, they’re not lingering. The company’s mission is to please people. Imagine if Cracker Barrel expanded its marketing strategy to satisfy young people.…
For example, SFO which is part of the private security program, SPP, conducts emergency exercises each year even though it is required by federal regulations to carry out such a drill every three years. SFO Airport Director declares that this concept is adopted by SFO to maintain high level of training and preparedness against any threat (John L. Martin, 2014).…
The Federal Air Marshals are considered to be one of the Department Homeland Security. Throughout history they have been know for keeping passengers on airliners safe from hijackers. Many how question do we still need air marshals with improved security on aircraft and at airports many question the effectiveness of the air marshals. Even though they go through intensive training they have been involved in some controversies that have put the program under the scope even with their rich tradition on securing the skies.…
I do believe that when a business hires teens, rather than experienced workers they have a greater obligation to protect their safety and health. My reasoning would be to age and experience levels. A teen is not as…
The United States Department of Homeland Security was created by the Bush administration in 2001 as a result of the September 11th events. It is a cabinet department comprised of twenty two agencies which include the United States Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Administration, the United States Secret Service, and more. The Department of Homeland Security has over 240,000 employees dedicated to protecting America (dhs website). On average (add dhs fact). The Department of Homeland Security’s main goal is to protect American soil, values, and citizens.…
I believe that high schools should have open lunches. Students should be able to leave the school grounds and go to a fast food restaurant, or, if they choose should at least be able to go outside and eat. Students need to have a small break from school during the day, even if they are outside, they still can take their minds off of school work for a while. Students need to have fresh air and adequate sunlight. Fresh air and sunlight is a proven fact to help students in their studies and it also helps the students concentrate more. I understand that the school staff would not like the fact that the students would be able to leave campus without supervision. Are not the students in high school? Should we not have the responsibility to be able…
At the beginning of the twenty-first century everything changed for the United States of America. Hundreds of people were forced to jump to their deaths. Four airplanes, used as suicidal attack vessels, quaked the earth and the Pentagon as they hit their targets. Thousands of people died as the towers fell. It all happened Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001. Al-Qaeda, an Islamist militant group, was responsible for this brutal terrorist attack. It forced the United States to restructure the architecture of its own government in order to properly respond to a new terrorist threat. The US government had to consolidate “22 government agencies involving 180,000 employees, for the purpose of, as President George W. Bush stated, ‘ensuring that our efforts to defend this country are comprehensive and united’” (Mabee 386). In response to compromised national security, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created. The DHS is responsible for the coordination and unification of homeland security efforts in the United States (Kemp 28). In order to evaluate the success of the DHS I have to analyze whether it’s possible to prevent terrorism, if the US has been more secure since the DHS was created, and whether the DHS compromises our freedom to protect it.…
I asked my friend Danny Trinh in the Worcester Dining hall, “Why do you eat Pizza and Fries often, when you know that it is unhealthy?” He replied, “That’s all they have.” He said, because of the disgusting food, such as the red bean burger, he began leaning towards the good tasting unhealthy food. So what influences young adults and their food choices? Hebden states, “Taste was the most important influence on food selection, followed by convenience (availability), cost, nutrition/health value, smell and stimulatory properties (alertness).” Students like to lean towards food that tastes the best, therefore ignoring the health aspects which can impact them long term. It can be concluded that services should provide low-cost nutritious food that tastes good.…
Responsibility is heavily enforced anywhere you go, especially in schools, a big part of this is learning to do things on your ow. Having more lunch options can make students think about some of the healthier options or the cheaper priced item if on a budget or a diet. They can also learn how they can make good nutritious a meal with the money they have. The lunch room could have a regular meal, such as a cheeseburger or a chicken sandwich, a salad bar, with just a normal green salad or mix it up and have a daily salad schedule, like a regular salad one day and chicken salad and crackers or bread the next day. We could also benefit from a sandwich station, with ham, turkey, cheese and other toppings. There would now be something for everyone to choose from. They students would also have to choose their sides and watch the prices so that to justify as a meal. The salad bar or sandwich station may cost a little extra so it would be good for students to have to learn to watch what their lunch money account has in it often. School lunches cost around $2.50, but a salad bar could be up to $5.00 according to The Playwickian. This does not include any add-ons like as parfaits, chips and such. By giving students more options they can become more independent and…
The ability to transport people and products is a very important function of all airline carriers within the United States and throughout the world. Therefore, the Transportation Security Administration is an agency of the United States department of Homeland Security that has the authority over the security of the traveling public in the United States. The purpose of the Transportation Security Administration is to ensure that airline carriers meet and operate at a safe level. The Transportation Security Administration is a very importation part of the aerospace supply chain industry; it allows the aviation industry to move products throughout the world. Transportation Security Administration was created shortly after the terrorist attacks on September 11 2001 were over three thousand United States citizens were killed.…
In the article, Working at McDonalds, Sociologist, Amitai Etzioni speaks about how teenagers don’t benefit as much from a McDonalds job. Etzioni start off by saying there are over two-thirds of high school students who works at McDonald, and many believe fast food is a good first step in the right direction. Fast food restaurants, pay more than an average teenagers job, but there are downfalls to it. Etzioni has a few examples, to prove his claim. He believes there are no entrepreneurship, self-discipline, self-supervision and self-scheduling, mainly because a lot of teen jobs are highly structured, or as Etzioni states, “highly routinized.” When working these types of jobs, there are routines such as, changing…
According to Change.org, 9 out of 10 students say they would eat something else besides lunch food if they had a choice. A variety of food choices outside of school will benefit a student's health. Likewise, teens need the option to go out and take a break from their 8 hour school day. According to a student on Change.org, “refreshing our minds before the next few classes would really help us focus more, being in a happier environment.” Students need a break from slaving in a desk all day, doing school work. Leaving school for lunch gives students some fresh air and time to relax their brain. Leaving school to go get lunch would help students with their physical and mental…
Juniors and seniors should be allowed to go off campus during lunch. By the time someone is a junior they are approximately 16 years old and are responsible for their own actions. Juniors and seniors are responsible, tired of school lunches but meanwhile can drive places to get food, and with the juniors and seniors off campus at lunch the campus would be less crowded.…
The Secretary of Transportation is the head of the Department of Transportation (DOT), an agency of the federal government that is responsible for overseeing the national interests, development, and infrastructure needs regarding transportation throughout the entire country. The department was created in 1966 under the leadership of President Lyndon Johnson after conflict arose between the Defense Department and the Federal Aviation Agency over regulations on supersonic aircraft. With this new power, many transportation issues were able to be pursued under one national agency which solved many problems at the time including the bailout of the Pennsylvania Central Railroad, the implementation of Amtrak, reaction plans for airline hijackings, air-traffic controller strikes, and production of supersonic transportation [1].…
It would be better to teach teens how to drink responsibly, and hold them accountable for own their actions. Instead of prohibiting them from drinking in bars, restaurants, and in public places.…
