Definition
Traumatic brain injuries differ from other disabilities in that it’s an acquired condition, typically the result of a blow to the head or the head colliding with a solid object that causes the brain to impact the inside of the individual’s skull. This condition can also be the result of an object piercing the skull, eyes, or nose and entering the brain tissue. This type of injury can result in hematomas (ruptured blood vessels) and/or contusions (bruising of brain tissue) (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes, 2015).
