Travel Long Distances
Whenever we have to travel long distances within the country we can travel by train or by air in an aeroplane. I remember my first train journey which I performed when I was just about four years old.
After that journey so long back, I have made several journeys by train but, that first journey still lingers in my mind and thoughts.
We had to go to Madras, where my father had to attend a Conference. Since we had not then seen Madras and our winter vacations were falling during the dates of the Conference, it was decided that we would all go with father and make a trip to the South.
Regarding the visits to different places of the South I remember next to nothing as, I was rather small but the train journey is still very vivid in my mind. There, at Madras, my father had to attend a Conference whose date was the 18th of December so; it was decided to leave for Madras on the 15th.
After a long wait, at last the 15th of December came and my excitement knew no bounds. I would be going on my first ever train journey, enjoying an outing and seeing new places.
The train that we had to go by was known as the G.T. Express i.e. the Grand Trunk Express and we went to the station to board it. I think it was evening time when we boarded the train. Inside we had dinner and then my parents and my elder brother all slept. I could not get sleep as, I was just too excited. I remember that, I had taken a window so that I could see the fun outside but, alas. No sooner that we had finished dinner, it was dark and nothing was visible from the window.
It was only at the stops at the stations, I would peep out and see the rush and life on the platform. Seeing the stations for sometimes, I finally slept. When I woke up in the morning after a comfortable sleep at night, I was absolutely thrilled to look outside. The area the train was now crossing depicted a very beautiful cross section of land forms and greenery, mills and villages.
Oh, what a panoramic beauty it all was. When the

A physical journey which involves the movement from one place to another can have lasting effects on an individual or group which can be mental, emotional, physical, or a combination. The effects and overall impact of a journey will depend on the characteristics of the particular journey undertaken. The composers of different texts all employ a number of different techniques to convey, to the reader, their ideas about a journey and the impact that the journey being taken may have on an individual or group. We see the different techniques employed by composers through Peter Skrzynecki’s Crossing the Red Sea and Immigrants at Central Station, Shirley Geok-lin Lims The Town Where Time Stands Still and The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham.…

A trip that had previously taken several weeks to complete could now be completed in several days. Essentially, the expansion of railroads made longer distances seem shorter; enabling Americans to more readily move across the country and explore new and exciting lands. There was growing excitement as “Americans in all parts of the country had access to citizens from cities that in previous decades would have been out of reach” (Balliet 10). Americans now had an entirely new perception of time because of the drastic difference in travel times.…

Hi, Thai. I think your essay brings up a very important point “even though time goes on memories don’t fade”, which I did not think about while I was doing my essay. Also, I like the way you interpreted and combined the essays “Once more to the lake” by E.B White and “Summerland” by Peter Jon Lindberg with the phrase “We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves” by Pico Iyer because it gives the sensation that you really understand the readings and knows how to explain it. Thanks to your interpretation of the essays, I have a whole new point of view of the theme of them. In addition, I can relate to the meaning of the memories and how tough is to not remember some experiences that have been memorable. I love…

Getting on an airplane, which I had never been on before, in itself was very nerve-wracking. When I stepped off the plane into London, an amazing feeling rushed through me, I felt alive. This experience was one of those that someone would describe as once in a lifetime. From the views on the London Eye, to getting to see Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and the Eiffel Tower with its sparkling, eye-catching lights at night, all of these experiences and more made me so appreciative of everything I’ve ever received in my life. I cherish those memories, because I have no idea if I will ever get to go back…
