Treasure Island
Log One- Treasure Island starts with a narrative of a young boy, Jim. Jim is the son of a tavern keeper. The story begins with a mysterious grumpy pirate named Billy Bones. Billy refuses to pay rent, and Jim's father takes little to no action. Taking this into account, it can be deduced that there no law. Jim has been hired by Billy as a look out for a one legged man. Eventually, Jim finds someone, who, although is not the one-legged man of Jim's nightmares, is searching for Billy Bones. When they are intruduced, Jim overhears them conversing followed by the noises of combat. Billy takes a blow, and the "friend" escapes. Later Jim goes to try and collect rent from the man. Billy is drunk and tells of how his old crew is after him for his treasure.
Log Two- In Treasure Island, Jim attends his father's funeral, who recently died. There, he meets a blind man who wishes to meet Billy Bones. From him, Billy receives a Black Spot, which Billy interprets to mean that he has six hours to live. Jim finds his mother and they head out to a neighboring village for help from possibly invasive pirates. However, no one is willing to help. When Jim and his mother return home, they find Billy dead. Jim goes through his pockets and finds the key to the old man's chest. But, as he searches the contents of the chest he is forced to flee from offensive pirates.
Log Three- In Treasure Island, Jim starts out as a shy naive son of an inn keeper. Throughout the story Jim outsmarts pirates, confiscates a ship, and saves many lives. By the end of the story Jim has matured magnificently. Unlike most boys, Jim's father does not appear to be his main role model. Doctor Livesey seems to be a role model in, atleast, his early years. When Jim steals the map, he firstly thinks of the doctor. Also, Jim looks up top Squire Trelawny. Throughout the story, Jim spends considerable time with pirates. Though he does mimick them, the pirates do not leave any ill effect on the

Throughout the entire novel, Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, Jim has clearly been the most loyal, honest friend to his peers. Jim shows his kindness mostly to Huck, but the most apparent instance where Jim’s loyal characteristics show is at the end of the book when he gives up his freedom to help Tom Sawyer who was shot in the leg. I am not shocked at all about Jim’s decision to do this, largely because he showed great character to everyone he met and always took care of the people he knew.…

Jim is very much like a father to Huck. He looks out for Huck and he is respected and looked upon by Huck. This is also more significant because Huckleberry Finn never had a father and he never really had a role model. Jim serves this purpose perfectly. Throughout all of his adventures Jim shows compassion as his most prominent trait. He makes the reader aware of his many superstitions and Jim exhibits gullibility in the sense that he Jim always assumes the other characters in the book will not take advantage of him. One incident proving that Jim acts naive occurs halfway through the novel, when the Duke first comes into the scene “By right I am a duke! Jim’s eyes bugged out when he heard that...” In the novel, Huck Finn, one can legitimately prove that compassion, superstitious and gullibility illustrate Jim’s character perfectly. To begin with, among the many characteristics of Jim, his compassionate nature shows throughout the book. When Huck and Jim come across the floating boathouse, Jim finds a dead man inside. He advises Huck not to look as he says, “It’s a…

    Isle Royale

To listen to the music of the wilderness, is to listen to the howl of the wolf. Man may never fully understand the composer, nor his passion behind each note, but the aura of mystery that surrounds him will forever fill our dreams with wonder and adventure. For centuries, wolves have carried their melodies on a small island in northern Lake Superior, known as Isle Royale. Completely cut off from the mainland, Isle Royale is extremely isolated, with only a handful of human structures and trails. The wolves who reside on the island are not alone, however, accompanied by a native of the cervidae family, the moose (Peterson). Together, these two species, combined with the remote nature of Isle Royale, produce one of the most incredible ecological relationships in the world. Their lives deeply intertwined, the moose and wolves share a unique predator-prey relationship. The moose consume the raw flora of the island, and the wolves feed on the moose without competition from other predators. The distribution of both species is limited to the islands shores, which creates a highly controlled setting. Such an incredible scenario has drawn the attention of biologists and ecologists from around the world. Beginning in 1958 and continuing to present day, the Isle Royale Research Project has intensively researched, documented, and monitored the interaction between the wolf and moose free of human presence (Peterson). The island is the perfect location for a study. In essence the island itself acts as a controlled laboratory, and the researchers can observe the interaction between the species away from human impact.…
