Treasure Island Summary
This book is called Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. This book is about a young man named Jim who goes off in search of treasure with pirates. First, a man missing two fingers on one hand arrives at the Admiral Benbow asking for a man named Bill. When Bill returns, he is surprised because the man that asked for him was his old shipmate, whose name was Black Dog. They start talking, and later they get into a fight. Jim is visited by a blind man who comes to the inn looking for the captain. Billy Bones dies from apoplexy right after he gets a black spot. Jim and his mom look for Billy’s old sea-chest because he owes her money, and inside they find a map and a record book. They hide when they hear the blind man, and Jim later learns that his name was Pew. The pirates break into the Admiral Benbow and search for Billy’s sea-chest, but they are surprised that it was not there anymore. Pew later gets trampled by a horse and dies. Dr. Livesey gets a book from Jim that contains the directions for Captain Flint’s treasure at a place called Treasure Island. The squire gathers a ship and crew, and the captain, Long John Silver, becomes friends with Jim. A man named Smollett is the captain, and he does not like the crew. Jim overhears Silver talking about his plan to kill the honest men when they helped him get the treasure, so Jim decides to tell his friends what Silver’s plan was. When Jim sneaks onto the island on a boat rowing to shore, he sees a shadow of a man. The man, whose name is Ben Gunn, tells Jim that Captain Flint marooned him on the island three years ago. A substantial amount of men were dead, so Silver decides to ask for a truce. Jim and Silver intentionally tell the pirates where the treasure is, and when they get there they are shocked to find that it is not there.
