As I have tried to search through Google to what this term may actually mean, a number of results showed studies about web browsing patterns of Internet users, websites’ usage of enhanced features of the internet/world wide web, interaction and socialization of netizens throughout the web, world usage patterns & demographics, etc. Meaning the answer to the question is really extensive but I did a list of my own before searching.
Of course, topping my list is the trend of using social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. According to a prediction by EMarketer (emarketer.com), there will be 1.43 billion social network users this year which is a 19.2 percent increase from 2011. They also said that the 63.2 percent of internet users who will visit a social network at least once a month will rise to 67.6 percent next year and 70.7 percent in 2014. This year, one out of five people in the world will use a social networking site and one in every four in 2014 said EMarketer.
Under the usage of social media websites is the trend of creating, using and spreading memes.
