Trivergent Health Alliance Case Study
Trivergent Health Alliance is considered a Management Service Organization (MSO). MSO's provide several different kinds of services such as: Administrative, Operational, Financial, Information Technology, and many more. The goal of the Trivergent Health MSO is to support, unify, and streamline the non-healthcare functions of the three regional healthcare systems in Western Maryland: Western Maryland Health System, Meritus Health, and Frederick Regional Health System. By pulling these services out of each hospital individually, Trivergent is able to use the same staff, as sometimes less staff, to provide a better level of support, service, and expertise at a reduced overhead cost. The Western Maryland Health System Mission Statement is "We are
dedicated to providing patient-centered care and improving the health and well-being of people in the communities we serve". The vision statement includes "Shaping dynamic partnerships in advancing and well-being". The core values are Integrity, Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence, or “I2CARE” as it is called locally. Although it is now housed in a newer facility, WMHS has a long history. In 1996 Memorial Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital formed a joint alliance together to create WMHS. Eventually, the hospitals wanted to improve the overall quality by adding 8 specialty centers comprised of Behavioral Health, Cardiac Services, Children's/Adolescents' Health, Oncology Services, Outpatient Services, Orthopedics, and Joint Reconstruction, Trauma Services, and Women's Health. To reduce overpopulation, increase space available, and provide the newest and best possible services all in one place, WMHS merged the two alliance hospitals and constructed a new facility in November 2009 on Willowbrook Road in Cumberland.
