In the modern-day, the common belief is that it is a made up story just like many other myths you hear in Greek mythology. Although the general population believes otherwise, some people are certain it did happen(Wright 33). Heinrich Schliemann felt that he connected with the Trojan War from a young age when his father gave him a book about it. Schliemann’s excavations uncovered ruins of many cities around the area that is now modern-day Turkey, including evidence of a large Greek kingdom, “very capable of waging such a war as Homer describes.” (Stewart 25). Other remains they found include skeletons, sling bullets and evidence of a great fire. These discoveries excited Schliemann and many other historians because it was shown to be dated at about the same time period the Trojan War allegedly happened. A theory some people have is that some of the events described did occur, however when Homer wrote it he added a lot of information that was not true and turned it into a myth.
